Will support the on-site team by using their skills and expertise to assist with teaching classes on the group fitness schedule.

Pay Range

$24.10 - $36.15Major Responsibilities: Safe and enthusiastic instruction and physical education to members and guests of the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center. 1)Provide safe and appropriate group exercise instruction to members and guests of the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center. 2)Exhibit a professional and enthusiastic personality towards members and staff. 3)Set up and arrange appropriate space in group exercise areas for safe instruction. 4)Know and properly use stereo equipment during all classes. 5)Know and properly respond to all emergency situations that could arise in the Wellness Center and group exercise class areas. 6)Know and adhere to the Group Exercise Instructor Registry Agreement form. 7)Know and adhere to subbing guidelines. Please note: Once classes have been assigned to an instructor for the season, minimum subbing of that class is expected. 8)Actively participate in recruiting new members and guests to their classes. Knowledge and ability to demonstrate Wellness Center services, new equipment technology, and instruction techniques to members and guests of the Wellness Center. 1)Answer fitness related questions of members or have the ability to find answers for members. 2)Gain knowledge and ability to utilize new equipment and formats for teaching group exercise classes. 3)Gain knowledge and ability to utilize new equipment during group exercise classes. 4)Integrate new knowledge from in-house training, CECs, webinars and certifications regularly on an ongoing basis 5)Be a visible part of the Wellness Center and promote group exercise classes, programs and monthly member incentives, events, fitness assessment, class referral, and other Wellness Center offerings. 6)Possess and communicate knowledge of operations of the Wellness Center or where to find answers. Example: walking a member to the fitness desk to understand more about fitness assessments. Maintenance of class equipment and accurate, up to date class attendance records. 1)Properly maintain all equipment used for group exercise class programs. All losses and damages should be reported to the Group Exercise Coordinator. 2)Accurately record hours worked in Time & Attendance binder on a bi-weekly basis. 3)Accurately utilize real-time clocking in AdvocateWorks. Allowing yourself 10 minutes prior to class for set up and greeting members and 5 minutes after class to thank members for attending and allow next class to prepare. 4)Each instructor is responsible for recording his/her class statistics on a daily basis. Department development guidelines for existing and new group exercise classes instructors. 1)Attend all regularly scheduled All-Staff and Group Exercise Meetings. 2)Attend in-house safety training as determined by department policy and procedure. 3)Complete all mandatory Human Resource and Occupational Health requirements in a timely manner as determined by the system policy and procedure. 4)Stay abreast of all system and departmental communications such as email, posted signs, GSHWC eblasts, text messages, associate newsletter, voicemails, etc. 5)Routinely review all group exercise schedules including days, times and formats. 6)Maintain confidentiality of all member, patient and client information as outlined by HIPAA Guidelines. 7)Demonstrate accountability to Behaviors of Excellence at and apply to your role in the Wellness Center.Education/Experience Required:- High School education or equivalent with 1 year experience of fitness class instruction. - Must display ability to motivate - members in Fitness classes. - Requires good communication skills. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:- Good skills in coordination, rhythm and timing. Physical strength and flexibility is needed.- CPR certified. - ACE, ACSM, AFAA, AEA certification(minimum of 1) - WSI or equivalent water rescue preferred or obtained in first year. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: The job routinely demands a great deal of cardio respiratory and muscular endurance. Occasionally, the group exercise classroom furnishings may require rearranging to provide adequate space for instruction. Occasionally, may be asked to provide instruction at an affiliated site or business within our hospital service area. Occasionally, may be called upon to provide instruction at an unscheduled time in the absence of another instructor. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
