THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION.

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the appropriate Director, the Group Exercise Coordinator will assist with the leadership, management, and supervision of the Group Exercise Department and staff to provide the highest quality programming within a safe environment.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

  1. Minimum age of 21
  2. Relevant department experience in wellness or fitness
  3. Relevant, current group exercise or personal training certification

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to use weight and frequently perform the following physical activities; jump, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, hear and have visual acuity to perform detailed tasks
  2. Must have ability to motivate people and communicate effectively; both orally and in writing
  3. Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills and have ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  4. Must be detail oriented and exhibit a high degree of accuracy and alertness
  5. Must demonstrate initiative in absence of supervision
  6. Must be able to build meaningful relationships and relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  7. Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines
  8. Must possess ability to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality
  9. Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times

Job Requirements:

  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision, and values
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  3. Complete CPR/AED, First Aid, O2, Listen First in accordance with Conditions of Employment
  4. Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  5. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for developing and supporting the group exercise program.
  2. Working closely with instructors on team building / helping to support the group exercise program within their branch and citywide
  3. Assisting in training and recruiting of group exercise instructors.
  4. Working closely with graduates from the 8-Week Instructor Training by conducting one-on-one training sessions with them over at least a 4-week period of time;
    1. incorporating them into team teaching situations with the coordinator and/or experienced instructors that meet high teaching standards within the instructor organization
    2. Following up to ensure graduates by attending at least 1 or more of their team-teaching sessions
    3. Having mandatory one-on-one sessions with Coordinator and team teaching; all graduates from the 8-Week Instructor Training
  5. Working with other coordinators in a professional manner, respecting home base instructor needs, communicating effectively as they are put on schedules, and ensuring instructors follow the same protocol.
  6. Scheduling of all land and water exercise classes and instructors responsible for these classes.
  7. Responsible for answering all questions pertaining to the schedule and classes.
  8. Responding to all phone calls and e-mail in a timely manner.
  9. Ensuring exercise classes meet the highest standards of health and safety.
  10. Treating instructors and members with respect.
  11. Communicating problems/ information in monthly meetings with Metro Group Exercise Coordinator.
  12. Attending professional staff meetings once a month; attend Program Cabinet meetings twice a month.
  13. Holding monthly or bi-monthly staff meetings with the land and water and prepare minutes from these meetings with the Fitness/Executive Director.
  14. Changing bulletin board by group fitness studio.
  15. Knowing membership policies and procedures.
  16. Preparing for and ensuring all conditions in the studio and pool area are safe and clean for exercise classes.
  17. Following and enforcing all Association/Branch and program rules; following all risk management guidelines and reporting all accidents and incidents on the appropriate form and submitting to supervisor within 24 hours of event.
  18. Notifying supervisor of any concerns with the facility or equipment to ensure a Maintaining effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and staff.
  19. Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
  20. All other duties as assigned.
