Position Profile: Campus Groundskeeping Associate
About the Position: Saint Ignatius High School, a highly successful Jesuit college preparatory school for boys in Cleveland, Ohio, is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and energetic campus grounds keeping associate to work with our Campus Operations team. The ideal candidate will bring a hard-working, meticulous work ethic along with a positive, customer service attitude. Responsibilities include maintaining all landscaping (ranging from turf, to perennial and annual beds to trees and shrubs); maintaining all athletic fields (3 outdoor artificial turf fields and one indoor fieldhouse); maintaining irrigation systems; snow/ice removal in the winter and maintaining all equipment utilized for performing all related duties. This position is also responsible for maintaining a fleet of approximately 10 school vehicles. The ideal candidate will possess an eye for detail and relentless commitment to maintaining the park-like setting of our 25-acre campus.
This position is a full-time, non-exempt, year-round with standard hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hours may be modified depending on seasonal needs. Some overtime during the week and weekends is expected. The position reports to the Head Campus Groundskeeper.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Executes plans for daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal and annual groundskeeping activities to ensure proper maintenance and appearance of campus grounds.
  • Repairs and maintains equipment to ensure peak performance and readiness and maintains maintenance records.
  • Maintains and schedules irrigation as appropriate.
  • Cleans and maintains synthetic turf fields, track and surrounding areas.
  • External trash pickup and removal.
  • Fertilize lawns, shrubs, flowers, trees as well as weed and insect control
  • Pruning of trees and shrubs
  • Clean and maintain fleet of school vans and other vehicles
  • Snow removal (by hand and with equipment) and ice management of pedestrian walkways as needed prior to 7:00 a.m. when 2 or more inches of snow has fallen overnight; continued snow removal and ice management throughout the school day.

Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
  • 3+ years of experience in groundskeeping, turf management, landscape management, agriculture or similar field, preferably in an institutional setting, golf course or landscaping firm.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical equipment (maintenance and repairs) utilized in landscape management and snow removal.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio Drivers License and meet school insurability requirements as operating school vehicles is an essential part of this role

About Saint Ignatius High School:
Saint Ignatius High School, which opened its doors September 6, 1886, is a Jesuit college-preparatory school. The school enrolls more than 1,400 young men who hail from 92 cities in an 11-county region. Located in close proximity to downtown Cleveland in the vibrant and energetic Ohio City neighborhood, the school occupies 25 acres and includes 20 buildings and three athletic fields. The school has 114 faculty members, 89 percent of whom hold advanced degrees. Fifty-six percent have spent 10 years or more teaching at Saint Ignatius.
Saint Ignatius is also home to The Welsh Academy, a middle school for boys from local families of modest economic means, founded in 2019. The academy enrolls more than 60 boys in grades 6-8 and occupies Kesicki Hall on campus.
