Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking experienced Metal Grinders / Polishers to join a high-quality stainless steel fabrication operation in Fort Worth, Texas. This position is responsible for grinding, blending, finishing, and polishing stainless steel components and fabricated assemblies to pharmaceutical-grade and sanitary finishes.

This is a precision finishing position, not general grinding. Successful candidates must understand how to properly remove welds, blend surfaces, eliminate imperfections, and progressively finish stainless steel while maintaining dimensions, contours, and the overall appearance of the finished product.

The ideal candidate has experience working with high-end stainless steel fabrication for pharmaceutical, food processing, sanitary, semiconductor, medical, chemical, or other industries requiring extremely clean and consistent finishes.

Essential Job Duties

  • Grind and polish stainless steel components, welds, seams, corners, and fabricated assemblies.
  • Grind TIG welds flush without damaging or excessively removing the surrounding base material.
  • Blend weld areas so transitions are smooth and visually consistent with surrounding surfaces.
  • Perform progressive grinding, sanding, and polishing to achieve required surface finishes.
  • Produce high-quality sanitary and pharmaceutical-grade finishes according to customer specifications.
  • Remove weld discoloration, scratches, pits, tool marks, oxidation, and other surface imperfections.
  • Maintain consistent grain direction and surface appearance throughout finished components.
  • Polish flat surfaces, tubing, pipe, tanks, vessels, frames, corners, and difficult-to-access areas.
  • Properly select and use abrasives based on the required finish.
  • Work with grinding wheels, flap discs, sanding discs, belts, Scotch-Brite-type abrasives, polishing wheels, and buffing compounds.
  • Use hand grinders, angle grinders, die grinders, belt sanders, orbital sanders, polishers, and other finishing equipment.
  • Inspect completed work for scratches, gouges, uneven finishes, remaining weld marks, or other defects.
  • Follow drawings, work instructions, finish specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Protect finished stainless steel surfaces from contamination or damage during the fabrication process.
  • Maintain a clean work area and properly care for grinding and polishing tools.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous stainless steel grinding and polishing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience finishing stainless steel in a high-quality fabrication environment.
  • Ability to grind TIG welds smooth and blend them into surrounding stainless steel surfaces.
  • Knowledge of progressive abrasive finishing techniques.
  • Ability to recognize the difference between rough grinding, blending, brushed finishes, and polished finishes.
  • Ability to maintain consistent grain patterns and cosmetic appearance.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining production and quality expectations.
  • Ability to safely operate grinders, sanders, polishers, and other metal-finishing equipment.
  • Ability to read basic fabrication drawings, measurements, and work instructions.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive grinding and polishing work.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver materials and components as required.
