The Opportunity
Glass Roots Construction (GRC) is seeking a high-performing Construction Manager to lead our underground utility projects from inception to completion. As GRC continues to scale, this role serves as a pivotal bridge between our strategic goals and field execution. You won't just be managing tasks; you will be the primary driver of project profitability, client relationships, and operational excellence.
This is a leadership position designed for a proactive problem-solver who can navigate the complexities of civil construction while mentoring our field teams and ensuring GRC remains the gold standard for safety and efficiency in the North California area.
Responsibilities
The Construction Manager will report directly to the Director of Operations and have the opportunity to join a dynamic team, gain valuable experience, and be part of the exciting growth at GRC! You must be familiar with the goals of the project and the responsibilities of all involved parties.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day construction activities of a fiber optic utility network.
  • Compliance & Safety: Work directly with the Market Manager to ensure safe and quality construction practices are being met by our internal and subcontract crews.
  • Field Engagement: You will be in the field working alongside the crews 75% of your day.
  • Field Verification: Verify all construction progress as work is completed. This entails using a utility locator to identify depth and offsets of all newly placed conduit, vaults, etc.
  • Data Collection: Collect pictures, bore logs, and other data from crews to support customer Quality Control requirements.
  • Quality Assurance: Learn and apply all quality metrics to ongoing and completed work to ensure that finished products meet customer, municipality, and environmental specifications.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work night shifts on a rotation basis.

Required Qualifications
  • Industry Experience: Must have at least 3 years' experience working with and around directional drilling crews in the utility construction industry.
  • Leadership: Proven supervisory experience is required.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to work constructively with Environmental Monitors, DOT/OSHA, Municipalities, and other stakeholders.
  • Technical Literacy: Strong understanding of utility construction practices and terminology; ability to read, interpret, and adjust various construction drawings/prints.
  • Specialized Tools: Direct experience with utility locating systems.
  • Tech Savvy: Strong computer skills and experience in data management.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Licensing: A valid driver's license is required for all positions.

Additional Information
Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 Salary, based on experience + 15% Bonus
Schedule: Day Shift:Monday - Friday & Night Shift: Sunday - Thursday
Travel Requirements: 75%
