Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for professionals experienced in research administration, grants management, sponsored programs, research compliance, post-award reporting, core-facility operations, and structured research operations workflows.

This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on structured research administration review, grants workflow analysis, sponsored-program documentation, research compliance materials, budget review, post-award reporting, and high-quality project execution. Selected professionals will apply their research operations expertise to review realistic academic or institutional research scenarios, evaluate documentation requirements, prepare structured written outputs, and support accurate, evidence-based research administration tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Professionals in this role may contribute to:

Pre-Award Grants & Proposal Review

  • Review research administration scenarios involving grant proposals, budgets, budget justifications, sponsor requirements, submission materials, and pre-award workflows
  • Evaluate proposal packages against required fields, sponsor instructions, institutional requirements, source materials, and defined review criteria
  • Support structured review of NIH, NSF, DOE, DoD, foundation, or other sponsored research materials
  • Identify missing documentation, budget inconsistencies, compliance gaps, and expected proposal review outcomes

Post-Award, Financial & Compliance Support

  • Review post-award scenarios involving financial reports, effort certifications, award documentation, compliance records, RPPR materials, FFRs, and Uniform Guidance requirements
  • Evaluate post-award outputs against source records, reporting timelines, allowable cost rules, documentation standards, and sponsor requirements
  • Support structured review of 2 CFR 200 materials, sponsored-program records, contract documentation, and financial compliance workflows
  • Prepare clear written explanations for research administration decisions based on source materials and verifiable criteria

Research Compliance & Core-Facility Operations

  • Review research compliance scenarios involving IRB, IACUC, IBC, COI, export control, compliance training records, and research oversight documentation
  • Evaluate research operations materials involving core-facility workflows, shared-resource documentation, service requests, usage records, and administrative processes
  • Support structured review of materials connected to SharePoint, Box, DocuSign, Mendeley, EndNote, ADP Workforce Now, UKG Pro, or similar research administration systems
  • Maintain accuracy, consistency, and professional judgment across submitted work

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • 3+ years of experience in research administration, research operations, grants management, sponsored programs, research compliance, post-award administration, pre-award support, core-facility operations, or related institutional research roles
  • Experience in one or more areas such as NIH, NSF, DOE, DoD, foundation grants, pre-award grants management, post-award financial reporting, Uniform Guidance, 2 CFR 200, FFR, RPPR, sponsored-program administration, contract negotiation, IRB, IACUC, IBC, COI, export control, or shared-resource operations
  • Familiarity with tools and systems such as SharePoint, Box, DocuSign, Mendeley, EndNote, ADP Workforce Now, UKG Pro, grants portals, research administration systems, or similar institutional platforms
  • Comfort reading and preparing research administration artifacts such as grant proposals, budgets, budget justifications, compliance protocols, financial reports, effort certifications, training records, and sponsored-program documentation
  • Strong analytical thinking and written communication skills
  • Ability to translate research administration workflows into clear, structured task documentation

Educational Background

  • A degree or professional background in research administration, public administration, healthcare administration, higher education administration, finance, accounting, compliance, science administration, business administration, or a related field is helpful
  • Equivalent practical experience in grants management, sponsored programs, research compliance, post-award reporting, or institutional research operations is also highly relevant

Nice to Have

  • Experience at an R1 university, academic medical center, federal research agency, major nonprofit research organization, hospital research institute, or sponsored-programs office
  • Familiarity with Uniform Guidance, 2 CFR 200, NIH/NSF/DOE/DoD requirements, research compliance protocols, effort reporting, or post-award financial controls
