Job description

What to Expect with this Position:
Schutte Excavating is located in Greensburg, IN.  Our company has been steadily growing and are looking to expand our workforce.  Schutte Excavating’s focus is on Community Development Block Grant Projects, Storm Sewer Projects, General Construction Management, Concrete Construction, Site Development.  We travel within a 60-mile radius of Greensburg.  Current position we are looking to fill is Equipment Operator. This position must be proficient in the operation of excavators, backhoes, dozers, etc.  Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and provide material lists and equipment needs for the project.  Experienced in all aspects of site development including pipe laying, grading, foundation/footings, and general concrete work. 
Dependability is crucial to this position. 
A equipment operator is responsible for performing tasks in a safe manner.  Interact and communicate with co-workers and customers in a professional manner.  Maintain quality workmanship surpassing industry standards.  Mechanically inclined. Ability to understand project schedules and perform efficiently to maintain those schedules.
As an Operator, in this position, you will get the opportunity to work outside the piece of equipment from time to time.  The physical demands of the job may require the ability to lift heavy objects (25+lbs), stand for long periods of time, and work in a variety of weather conditions.
Required to hold a valid driver's license.

  • What is the typical schedule? Monday - Friday; 7:30 - 4:00 (start and end times may need to vary at times)
  • What are some of the specific projects you do? We do commercial projects like laying sewer and sanitary pipes, running water lines, and lots of concrete work (sidewalks, curbs, roads, and decorative). We also move dirt and use GPS for grading.
  • What do you do in the winter? We can still pour concrete in the winter and there is plenty to do around the shop to keep people busy on slow days. We also use this time to train and develop.
