Overview

M&J Engineering, D.P.C. is hiring a Site Safety Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to join our collaborative team of experienced engineers, architects, scientists and other professionals. The Site Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring full compliance with NYS DOSH, NYC DEP, NYC DOT, and OSHA regulations across active project sites. This role provides daily oversight of field operations, enforces public safety requirements, conducts inspections, and supports incident prevention and response activities. The Site Safety Officer works closely with project management, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies to maintain a safe, compliant, and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Site Safety Oversight - Monitor daily field activities to ensure compliance with NYS DOSH, OSHA, NYC DEP, and NYC DOT rules, including permit conditions, HASP requirements, and Maintenance & Protection of Traffic (MPT) plans.
  • Daily Safety Inspections - Conduct and document routine site inspections; identify hazards; verify corrective actions; maintain digital inspection logs.
  • Regulatory Compliance - Ensure adherence to OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926, NYS Industrial Code Rule 23, DEP site protocols, DOT traffic control standards, and projectspecific safety requirements.
  • Public Safety Management - Implement controls to protect pedestrians, motorists, and the surrounding community; verify barricades, signage, and traffic devices meet DOT specifications.
  • Incident Response - Lead initial incident investigations, secure the scene, collect statements, prepare preliminary reports, and communicate findings within required timeframes.
  • Training & Coaching - Reinforce safe work practices, conduct toolbox talks, and support onboarding of new personnel.
  • Documentation & Reporting - Maintain accurate records including JHAs, permits, inspection forms, corrective action logs, and regulatory notifications.
  • Coordination with Agencies - Interface with NYC DEP, DOT inspectors, and other authorities during audits, walkthroughs, and compliance checks.
  • Contractor Oversight - Verify subcontractor compliance with HASP, PPE requirements, and project safety standards.
  • Emergency Preparedness - Support emergency planning, drills, and response readiness.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 1-5 years of experience in construction, environmental, or utilityrelated safety.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1910/1926, NYS DOSH, NYC DEP safety protocols, and NYC DOT traffic control/MPT requirements.
  • Ability to interpret and enforce HASP, MPT, permit conditions, and sitespecific safety plans.
  • Proficiency in digital inspection platforms and safety reporting tools.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and fieldcoordination skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple active sites and respond rapidly to incidents or regulatory inquiries.
