Harlem Hospital Center has been a bedrock of the Harlem community since 1887. Work Shifts9:00 A.M - 5:00 P.MDuties & ResponsibilitiesPurpose of Position:
Under general supervision, directly supervises Rehabilitation Counselors and other members of the therapeutic team in guiding the vocational rehabilitation program of patients with physical developmental, cognitive, and/or emotional disabilities or other impairments or clients with psychological problems affecting their job performance and social adjustment in health care settings; performs related work.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Supervises Rehabilitation Counselors and members of the therapeutic team.
2. Participates in program planning, coordinates programs, plans and conducts in-service training programs.
3. Develops and maintains relationships with community resources.
4. Reviews case records prepared by staff.
5. Assesses and evaluates the client's potential for vocational and social adjustment.
6. Implements and coordinates the treatment program.
7. Maintains case records.
8. Evaluates testing materials and administers psychological and vocational tests.
9. Consults with other units regarding procedures affecting rehabilitation services.
Minimum Qualifications1. Master's Degree in rehabilitation counseling or vocational rehabilitation counseling, psychology or a related discipline issued after completion of a two (2) year course of study from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of full-time experience, at least one (1) year of which must have been with adults, in rehabilitation counseling, vocational rehabilitation counseling or psychological counseling or psychological testing; or
2. Thirty (30) graduate semester credits from an accredited college or university in rehabilitation counseling, vocational rehabilitation counseling, or related discipline and three (3) year of full-time experience in vocational rehabilitation counseling, at least one (1) year of which must have been with adults as described in "1" above; or
3. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university plus six (6) years of satisfactory full-time experience in rehabilitation counseling or vocational rehabilitation counseling, at least one (1) year of which must have been with adults as described in "1" above; or
4. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience. However, all candidates must thirty (30) graduate semester credits in rehabilitation counseling, vocational rehabilitation, psychology and/or related discipline and have at least one (1) year of experience as described in "1" working with adults. Master's Degree in vocational rehabilitation from an accredited college or university after completion of a two (2) year course will be accepted as meeting one (1) of the two (2) years of experience required in "1" above.
