Position Title
Digital Media Graduate Assistant - Athletics
Job Description
Ashland University Athletics is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Assistant in Athletic Communications. This position provides significant hands-on experience in NCAA Division II athletics media relations, live event coverage, and digital content strategy while working directly with the Director of Digital Media and Broadcasting and the Director of Athletic Communications.
Ashland University competes at the NCAA Division II level and is a member of The Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
The ideal graduate assistant would possess a strong base knowledge of editing techniques while expressing an eagerness to learn about the many facets of media production. The position comes with a stipend, tuition waiver, meal plan, and the expectation to work in the office, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Assist in writing, editing, and distributing press releases, game recaps, previews, and feature stories for Ashland University Athletics.
  • Assist with live stats during games and events when needed.
  • Create engaging digital content for Athletic Website and official social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X).
  • Assist in designing and producing graphics, game programs, and promotional materials to enhance fan engagement.
  • Capture and edit photo and video content for digital and social media use.
  • Assist with nominating student-athletes for conference, regional, and national awards.
  • Assist with social media content planning and implementation for all sports
  • Capturing photo/video at home athletics events and practices
  • Produce highlight packages.
  • Assist with the broadcast and provide editing support to the Director of Digital Media and Broadcasting.
  • Aid in the production and editing of media content for all Ashland University athletic teams.
  • Research and contribute to social media content calendar.
  • Attend the Athletic Administration weekly meetings.
  • Capture and archive gameday cinematic content.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Digital Media and Broadcasting.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, communications, broadcasting, digital media, marketing or a related field is required.
  • Experience in digital media, sports broadcasting, video production or athletic communications is highly preferred.
  • Experience managing social media platforms for an organization or athletic program is highly preferred.
  • Strong video editing and graphic design skills are required.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working with student-athletes and coaches.
  • Previous experience in college athletics or other athletic organizations is highly desired.
  • Position requires well-developed communication skills, as well as strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Requires the ability to tell the stories of student-athletes, coaches and Ashland University Athletics.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings is required.
