Location: East Brunswick, NJ

Job Description

The Heavy Equipment Operator safely and efficiently operates dozers, excavators, and loaders to perform sitework, grading, excavation, trenching, backfilling, and material handling on civil, environmental, and site development projects. This role supports field operations by maintaining high standards of productivity, precision, and safety while working across various project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Operate dozers, excavators, and loaders in accordance with project specifications, company procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Perform site preparation, excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material loading to meet required tolerances and project requirements.
  • Interpret and follow grade stakes, site plans, construction drawings, and instructions from supervisors to achieve accurate grades and slopes.
  • Conduct daily pre-start inspections of heavy equipment, complete required checklists, and ensure machines remain in proper working condition.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness, monitor fluid levels, and promptly report maintenance needs, malfunctions, or mechanical issues.
  • Load, move, and distribute earth, rock, aggregates, debris, and other materials efficiently while minimizing waste and preventing contamination.
  • Perform fine grading and maintain proper drainage, compaction, and subgrade standards as directed by project specifications.
  • Support the crew with general labor tasks when equipment is not in use, including site cleanup and material handling.
  • Communicate clearly with the project team, site supervisors, and signal personnel to coordinate safe and efficient operations.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating heavy equipment, including dozers, excavators, and loaders, in civil or sitework construction.
  • Proficiency operating excavator, loader, and dozer equipment in field conditions.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and grade stakes.
  • Proficiency using lasers for pipe leveling and grade control.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong safety awareness and consistent adherence to OSHA and company safety protocols.
  • High attention to detail, especially in grading, excavation, and material handling tasks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Brunswick, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
