Job description

Location: York, PA (all local work with 1-hr from the shop)

Shift: Days

Pay: $30-40/hr. (based on experience level)

Description:

  • Cannonball Recruiting is seeking an experienced Asphalt Roller Operator for a York, PA Paving and Excavating company. This person will safely operate the heavy machinery to compact and smooth freshly laid asphalt.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of (2) years' experience operating Breakdown Roller and Finish Rollers.
  • Need to be able to understand the operations and process of running for commercial and roadways
  • Understanding of compaction techniques, asphalt behavior, material properties, and temperature zones.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • CDL is nice to have but not required; tanker endorsement is a plus

Job Duties:

  • Drive rollers (smooth drum, pneumatic tire) in overlapping passes to achieve required compaction and smoothness on asphalt and subgrade.
  • Work with the paving crew, using hand/audio signals to coordinate speed, direction, and avoid interference.
  • Monitor asphalt temperature and adjust machine settings (frequency, amplitude, water) to match mix design, thickness, and temperature for optimal compaction.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-operation checks, fluid/water system checks, and report mechanical issues to supervisors.
  • Safely operate roller in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness.
  • Determine the speed and direction of the machine, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures, so that ridges do not form by excessive pressure.
  • Use a hand tamp or guide portable plate compactors over areas not accessible to a road roller.
  • Operate the Breakdown roller to achieve proper compaction.
  • Operate the Finish Roller in successive overlapping passes to apply the final finish and remove imperfections with a finish roller.
  • Uphold strict safety guidelines, barricade freshly laid asphalt, and maintain awareness of surroundings and crew members.
  • Responsible for daily checks of water systems and scrapers on the drums.
  • Assist with setup/take-down, clean up, and potentially other duties as assigned.

Benefits:

  • Health / Dental / Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off; Paid Holidays = 6
  • Eligible for 401(k) after 1st Year (with company match up to 2%)
  • Employer Paid Short Term Disability
  • Employer Paid Life Insurance 35k **(Additional Voluntary Life Insurance available)**
  • FSA-Flexible Savings Accounts (pre or post-tax election)
  • AFLAC – various plans/coverages available
  • TELADOC – U.S. board-certified doctors are available 24/7/365 to resolve many of your medical issues through phone or video consults
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – confidential counseling and treatment

All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen, driver's license check, and background check.
