Civil Construction Grading Foreman – Lead Precision Site Work and Infrastructure Development
Job Overview

  • Location: Fredericksburg, VA
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday (50+ hours per week; on-call for weather/emergencies).
  • Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: Valid Driver's License (must meet JBR Fleet Policy).
The Opportunity

You will serve as the primary on-site leader, bridging the gap between project management and field execution to drive the success of complex grading operations. This role offers the autonomy to manage large-scale dirt work projects while mentoring a dedicated crew within a company that prioritizes long-term career growth. You will be the "big picture" strategist responsible for ensuring every site is engineered to perfection, on time and within budget.

How You Will Make an Impact
  • Direct daily grading operations by developing and executing meticulous field plans in cooperation with the Superintendent.
  • Supervise and mentor grading crews to foster a culture of mutual respect, high morale, and professional development.
  • Coordinate with Owners and Engineers to maintain professional relations and ensure all work meets exact specifications.
  • Oversee the proper maintenance and application of heavy equipment to maximize efficiency and project uptime.
  • Execute strict safety protocols and OSHA compliance to protect the well-being of every team member on-site.
  • Monitor project expenses, material inventory, and rental equipment to maintain strict budget adherence.
  • Evaluate site progress and maintain accurate daily reports, work unit quantities, and equipment documentation.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • 3+ years of experience specifically as a Grading Foreman.
  • 5+ years of experience within highway or large-scale civil construction.
  • Proven proficiency operating all types of heavy equipment for dirt and site projects.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of excavation, surveying, and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable standards, codes, and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to lead projects with minimal supervision.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires employees to frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, handle objects, reach outward, and reach above head and shoulders, climb, squat, kneel, bend, and occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, move, drag on flat ground or steep slopes up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Demonstrated success in managing high-stakes project logistics and cost-control measures.
  • Experience in conducting post-incident investigations and safety program implementation.
  • Proven track record of training and promoting junior workers into leadership roles.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Weekly pay cycle with performance and year-end bonuses.
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance.
  • Company-paid $50K Life Insurance policy.
  • Retirement Savings Program and Profit Sharing / Employee Stock Options.
  • Paid Time Off including holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
  • Company vehicle, smartphone/tablet, and tool replacement program.
  • Wellness reimbursements and professional development through paid training and certifications.
