Business Development Representative

Summary:
The Business Development Representative helps the company grow by identifying and capitalizing on new business opportunities. This professional accomplishes grow by generating leads with potential customers who own or manage industrial and/or commercial properties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Assists the Director in creating an annual business development department budget. Quantifies what resources will be needed to achieve the revenue plan, what margins will be achieved, and what investment in personnel, equipment, and expenses will be required to achieve those goals.
  2. Builds and maintains a network of potential customers who own or manage industrial and/or commercial properties. Actively seeks to build long-term relationships with people, organizations, or agencies that may need the company's services. Attend networking meetings and events that attract industrial and commercial building owners and managers. Maintains a database of contacts and connects with them by phone, mail, email, or face-to-face on a regular basis.
  3. Engages Estimators and Sales Executives to develop and close deals. Works closely with Estimators and Sales Executives to capture opportunities. Introduces them to potential customers and assists them in developing, submitting, and closing deals.
  4. Maintains the relationship during and after a project. Recognizes that most potential customer control multiple buildings and that a new project could lead to additional opportunities. Stays in contact with the customer during and after the project to ensure complete satisfaction. Seeks repeat business continuously.
  5. Ensures that department activities meet company goals for volume and margin. Reviews all post-project results to ensure that the information is complete and all margins meet company goals. Creates and implements a post-project monitoring system and provides feedback to appropriate parties.
  6. Provides feedback to the Marketing, Sales, and Production Departments. Identifies, evaluates, and documents opportunities for operational improvements and for additional revenue streams, and discusses them with leaders in other departments. Recommends which to pursue.
  7. Seeks to improve productivity and results daily.
  8. Follows all company safety rules and operating procedures, practices and guidelines.
  9. Completes other tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements:
  1. A Bachelors or Associate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business, marketing, operations management, or a related field, or 10+ years of hands-on experience as a business developer or sales executive calling on industrial or commercial customers.
  2. Strong understanding of the construction market and the ability to match the customer's needs with the company's capabilities.
  3. A demonstrated ability to understand and work with contracts that provide for construction services or financing for construction services.
  4. A demonstrated understanding of building insurance and how insurance claims are processed.
  5. Strong 4-function math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  6. Demonstrated computer skills using a service-oriented CRM system, including mobile access.
  7. Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to keep calm and be clear with challenging customers, staff, and vendors.
  8. The perseverance to keep pursuing solutions even when customers, staff, or vendors are not cooperative.
  9. Strong oral and written communications skills when interacting with customers, staff, management, or vendors.
  10. Strong abilities to multi-task, prioritize activities, and react quickly to changing information.
  11. A valid driver's license with no DUIs and no restrictions on driving for company-related business.
  12. Desirable personal traits including honesty, integrity, accuracy, high standards, fairness, and good listening and time management skills.
  13. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on quantitative methods.
  14. Solid working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to the selling, providing, and invoicing of construction services.
  15. No restrictions or requirements preventing the ability to work in the US for any US company.

Physical demands:
