Job description

Greenfield Engineering, a Saalex Company is seeking PNT/GPS Engineer in Lexington Park, MD to support the Mission Systems Group and related military avionics programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with avionics navigation and communication systems, a strong background in global positioning systems, inertial navigation and flight planning. This position is a key contributor to mission effectiveness and safety of flight across the Naval Aviation enterprise. The role directly supports the successful fielding of robust, reliable, and precise navigation capabilities by providing the hands-on engineering analysis and technical support necessary for the design, integration, and certification of advanced navigation systems.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $140k - $170k (depending upon experience)
Work Location: Full-time onsite.

Job Summary:

The GPS Navigation Engineer applies systems engineering principles to the design, integration, and testing of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) systems. The incumbent serves as a contributing technical team member, supporting navigation-related efforts across multiple aviation platforms.

This position reports to the Position, Navigation, and Timing Branch Head and provides direct, hands-on engineering support to platform-level Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and the broader engineering organization.

The incumbent works as part of the engineering team to analyze navigation system performance and apply technical expertise in areas including Global Positioning System (GPS), Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), Embedded GPS/INS (EGI), Navigational Warfare (NAVWAR), and Radar Altimeters (RADALT). The role involves supporting the execution of technical projects and assisting in the development and review of engineering documentation and certification artifacts.

Essential Functions:

  • System Integration and Technical Support
    • Contributes to the integration of navigation systems and components across multiple platforms. Provides technical support for navigation-related activities, including EGI-M upgrades and RADALT 5G C-band mitigation efforts. Assists platform program offices by providing technical data and analysis related to navigation system performance.
  • Engineering Analysis and Review
    • Assists in the technical review of engineering documentation. Under the guidance of senior engineers, supports the evaluation of Flight Clearances, Engineering Data Requirements Agreement Plans (EDRAPs), and navigation certification artifacts to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with established requirements.
  • Technical Planning and Execution
    • Contributes to the execution of technical plans and science & technology development efforts. Supports the definition and refinement of system specifications for PNT, GPS, INS, EGI, NAVWAR, NAVAIDs (TACAN, VOR, DME), RADALT, and precision approach systems.
  • Collaborative Support and Development
    • Works collaboratively with other engineers to provide solutions and technical recommendations on navigation topics. Participates in the development of training materials on navigation subjects and assists newer engineers in understanding established team processes. Attends technical conferences and events to gather information and support organizational goals.

Requirements

Education:

A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Experience or academic coursework related to the design, integration, or testing of GPS, inertial, or other navigation systems.

Security Clearance:

Active Secret clearance required. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.
