The Opportunity

We are looking for a skilled government relations professional with a strong background in multistate government affairs, an agile mindset, and desire to advance American manufacturing and energy leadership with an industry leading, international corporation.

As Director of Multi State Government Relations, you will be responsible for driving a multistate program and building relationships with Governor's offices, state legislators, economic development organizations, state-based trade associations and other third-party stakeholders. In this role, you will report to the U.S. Vice President of Government & Institutional Relations and work closely with Hitachi Energy Regional Business Unit Leaders, State-based Operations and Corporate Functions. This is a unique opportunity to drive meaningful impact at the intersection of business, policy, and society.

How you will make an impact

  • Develop and execute Hitachi Energy's state and local government relations activities across the United States.
  • Cultivate a multistate government relations program to support company business objectives and deliver key policy and regulatory goals.
  • Represent Hitachi Energy with state and local governments officials by building and maintaining relationships with Governor's offices and local/state officials.
  • Lead engagement in states where Hitachi Energy has a strong presence including representing the company with local officials, hosting site visits, partnering with facility community managers on local/regional events, leading advocacy on regulatory and energy topics with state and local elected officials.
  • Build state partnerships with key stakeholders including chambers of commerce, energy organizations, economic development organizations, manufacturing associations, community partners and other decision influencers.
  • Foster cross-business collaboration when designing and advancing local and state policy priorities.
  • Develop communications tools, localized messaging, regional thought leadership opportunities and related initiatives to elevate the brand, build positive awareness and position Hitachi Energy positively with key stakeholders.
  • Work closely with in-house communications teams and relevant third-party resources to support effective advocacy and reputational activities with key state stakeholders.

Your Background

  • Bachelor's degree with 10-12 years of direct work experience in multistate government relations, regional state/county government experience, or state-based consultancy firm supporting across multiple states. Master's Degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of advancing policies, building relationships and multistate programs at the state and local level.
  • Experience in electrical grid and manufacturing policies.
  • Experience in policy research and state regulatory documents.
  • Experience integrating communications strategies and best practices to enhance government outreach and advocacy activities.
  • Experience working in large, multi-business matrixed organizations.
  • Successful track record working across multiple stakeholders to drive actions and results.
  • Focus on solving complex energy policy and regulatory issues.
  • Proven track record of advancing policy and regulatory issues of importance related to the grid, AI/data centers, energy generation, and manufacturing with state officials.
  • Multistate legislative experience is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and change management mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compensation range based on experience and location: $150-$200 base salary.
