What is a government contract accountant?

A Government Contract Accountant is a professional responsible for managing and overseeing the financial aspects of contracts between private companies and government agencies. They ensure compliance with federal regulations, such as the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and handle tasks like cost analysis, billing, and auditing contract expenditures. Their work helps organizations maintain accurate records and avoid penalties by adhering to specific government accounting standards. Government Contract Accountants often collaborate with project managers and auditors to ensure all financial operations meet legal and contractual requirements.

What are some common challenges government contract accountants face when ensuring compliance with federal regulations?

Government Contract Accountants often face the challenge of staying up to date with complex and frequently changing federal regulations, such as FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and CAS (Cost Accounting Standards). Ensuring consistent compliance requires meticulous attention to detail in cost allocation, documentation, and reporting. Job description

"Contracts Analyst" (Legal & Strategic Focus) (the right Paralegal with contracts experience would be considered)

PrideStaff has partnered with a prominent government agency and is actively seeking a high-level

Contracts Analyst to join their Procurement Division.
This isn’t a typical "order-processing" procurement role. We are looking for a professional who views contracts through a legal and strategic lens—someone who understands that a contract is a risk management tool, not just a purchase order. While you'll sit within the Procurement Division, your primary focus will be the art of the agreement: navigating complex liability frameworks, mastering indemnification clauses, and ensuring the agency is protected while remaining efficient.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Stewardship: Lead and implement process improvement initiatives to modernize the contracting lifecycle. You won't just follow the process; you'll help build a better one.
  • Legal Liaison: Serve as the primary bridge between the Procurement Division and the Legal Division (PBSO). You will translate operational needs into sound legal protections.
  • Complex Negotiation: Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of high-value contracts for materials and services. This includes heavy lifting on terms and conditions, specifically focusing on risk mitigation, liability, and indemnification.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Budget, Accounting, and internal stakeholders to ensure fiscal obligations are met and performance milestones are hit.
  • Compliance & Monitoring: Act as the watchdog for contract performance, ensuring all parties remain in strict compliance with both local regulations and the specific "fine print" of the agreement.

The Profile We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate has the grit of a negotiator and the precision of a legal professional. You likely have a legal background (Paralegal experience is a significant plus) and can spot a problematic clause from a mile away.
Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. Emphasis in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or a legal-related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of eight (8) years of dedicated experience in contract management. Government experience a PLUS!
  • Technical Savvy: High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience navigating complex contract management software.
  • Procurement Fluency: Deep understanding of both public and private procurement methods, even if your primary focus is the legal/contractual side rather than sourcing.
  • Certifications preferred – CPCM, CFCM or CCCM

Benefits

  • State of Florida Retirement System
  • Health Care, Dental and Vision Care
  • Life Insurance
  • Cost of Living Adjustment
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Sick, Vacation & Holiday Pay
  • Tuition Reimbursement Program and more
