Job description

Charlestowne Hotels is a full-service hospitality management company offering innovative, yet proven, expertise in hotel development, operational controls, marketing and revenue management, and financial reporting. Based in Charleston, South Carolina, with principals employing more than 100 years of cumulative experience in the hospitality industry, the company has consistently demonstrated an earnest commitment to its guests, employees, owners and community.


We are currently seeking an Accounting Assistant to support the day-to-day accounting operations as well as perform a variety of accounting, administrative and organizational tasks for the corporate office. This position will report to the Corporate Controller. 


Responsibilities Include: 

  • Perform administrative tasks of accounting department and corporate office including correspondence, license application/renewals, tracking/payment of property taxes and other administrative tasks as they arise.
  • Enter and manage shared expenses including intercompany allocations, invoices, etc.
  • Process accounts payable including weekly check runs and emergency checks.
  • Manage corporate entity accounts payable including entry of invoices and processing payments.
  • Assist with year-end tasks.
  • Vendor management including preparing and processing 1092 and 1096s when necessary.
  • Process monthly preparation of sales tax or accommodation tax returns for properties.
  • Assist the accounting department employees and corporate leaders as needed or any other assigned duty deemed necessary by supervisor.
  • Reading and analyzing incoming mail, government audit submissions, and distributing them as needed.
  • Provide general support for the corporate office.


Required Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma
  • Some accounting education or work, or Bookkeeping experience
  • Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, and preferably Google suite of systems
  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve and think logically
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Able to work as a team player in a deadline driven environment with accuracy and organization
  • Maintain a courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers and public
  • Proven experience providing effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
  • Ability to create, update and distribute routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively and professionally with individuals or groups inside and outside of the organization
  • Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and act efficiently and with urgency
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks at any given time


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Accounting Systems, M3 preferred
  • Experience with QuickBooks


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push and pull
  • Vision is required to analyze and process various forms and documents utilized within the framework of performing assigned tasks
  • Hearing is required to adequately perform telecommunications functions
  • Ability to verbally communicate clearly with co- workers
