The Role:

As Accounting Manager, you will lead the month-end close, oversee the accounts payable function, review account reconciliations, provide OPEX / spend reports, and support technical accounting matters. You will coordinate with external auditors and tax consultants, identify process improvements, and initially manage two AP staff members. The role reports to the Assistant Controller and may assume management responsibility for two senior accountants as the team structure evolves.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and coordinate the month-end close process, ensuring the timely and complete execution of assigned close tasks
  • Develop a thorough understanding of AP processes and assume responsibility for approving weekly payment runs
  • Ensure timely entry of AP bills, closure of the AP module, and review of month-end accrued liability journal entries
  • Ensure accuracy of vendor coding and accruals that enables timely reporting of spend by channel, department, and categories
  • Partner with other departments to track spend by project
  • Minimize year-end audit cleanup through detailed monthly review of account reconciliations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for complex account balances, including (but not limited to) internally developed software and leases (ASC 842).
  • Review month-over-month fluctuations and contribute to month-end financial statement analysis discussions
  • Work directly with the external auditor and tax consultant to manage the year-end audit and tax return processes
  • Own ad hoc projects, including reclassification projects, process assessments and revisions, and process documentation
  • Identify and implement improvements that increase the accuracy and efficiency of the month-end close process

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and financial statement preparation.
  • 3-10 years of progressive accounting experience in industry and/or public accounting; Big Four or large regional public accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with cost accounting or general inventory accounting
  • Ability to manage, coach, and develop accounting staff, including assigning responsibilities, reviewing work, providing feedback, and supporting overall team performance
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Be comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment and dealing with ambiguity
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Experience with Acumatica ERP or other mid-market ERP system is preferred
  • CPA preferred
