Position Summary

Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries is seeking a strategic, mission-driven, and results-oriented Vice President (VP) of Donated Goods Retail to join our Executive Team. This senior leadership position is responsible for the overall direction, operational excellence, financial performance, and growth of the organization’s donated goods retail operations, including retail stores, donation centers, transportation/logistics, warehousing, and e-commerce initiatives.

The VP of Donated Goods Retail will lead a dynamic team focused on maximizing revenue generation to support Goodwill’s mission of improving lives through the power of work. This role requires a strong combination of retail leadership, operational management, financial acumen, team development, and strategic planning.

Key ResponsibilitiesExecutive Leadership & Strategy
  • Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to organizational strategy and long-term planning.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to increase retail sales, donor engagement, and operational efficiency.
  • Align donated goods retail operations with the mission, vision, and values of Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Retail Operations Management
  • Provide oversight and leadership for all donated goods retail stores, donation centers, transportation, warehousing, and related operations.
  • Ensure stores and operational sites maintain high standards for customer service, safety, cleanliness, merchandising, and profitability.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), budgets, sales goals, labor metrics, and operational benchmarks.
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies, market expansion, and revenue growth.
Financial & Business Management
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Analyze sales trends, operational reports, and financial performance data to drive informed decision-making.
  • Ensure sound inventory management and donation flow processes to maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Collaborate with finance and executive leadership to support annual budgeting and organizational financial goals.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop directors, managers, and operational leadership staff.
  • Promote employee engagement, succession planning, leadership development, and performance accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety standards, employment laws, and regulatory requirements.
Community & Donor Relations
  • Support community engagement efforts that enhance Goodwill’s visibility and donor participation.
  • Collaborate with marketing and community relations teams to strengthen brand awareness and donor loyalty.
  • Represent Youngstown Area Goodwill professionally within the community and industry associations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive retail and operational leadership experience, including multi-site management.
  • Executive or senior leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong financial management, budgeting, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to lead large teams and drive operational performance improvements.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in nonprofit retail, thrift retail, logistics, or donation-based operations is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to servant leadership and mission-focused work.
