Position Overview
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Trust & Estates Attorney to join their growing team. This role is open to mid-level, senior-level, or counsel-level candidates, with the final title and compensation commensurate with experience.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in sophisticated estate planning and trust administration for high-net-worth (HNW) individuals, a strong background in fiduciary and elder-law litigation, or a unique blend of both.
Location: This position can be based out of any of the regional offices, provided the candidate is licensed and in good standing with the Virginia Bar.
Key Responsibilities
- Estate Planning & Wealth Management: Designing, drafting, and implementing sophisticated estate plans for high-net-worth (HNW) individuals and families, specifically managing taxable estates ranging from $30M and above.
- Estate & Trust Administration: Overseeing complex trust and estate administration, navigating probate processes, and providing strategic counsel on tax planning and wealth preservation.
- Fiduciary & Elder Law Litigation: Representing clients in contentious, high-stakes fiduciary disputes, including contested guardianship matters, conservatorships, capacity challenges, and other elder-law-related litigation.
- Client Advisory: Serving as a trusted advisor to clients, families, and corporate fiduciaries, delivering high-touch service and navigating sensitive family and financial dynamics.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license and in good standing with the Virginia State Bar (Required).
- Experience: 7-12 years of dedicated experience handling HNW estate planning, tax strategies, and estate/trust administration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to manage complex, sensitive legal matters independently.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Compensation & Title Placement
- Salary Range: $175,000 – $195,000+ (Base salary is highly competitive and dependent on experience and specialized expertise).
- Title Determinations: Candidates will be evaluated for placement at the Associate, Counsel, or Principal level based on years of practice, depth of experience, and leadership capabilities.
