Pay Range: $15.55 - $19.26 per hour

Work Location/Program Overview: Drive with us and make a difference! At Good News Garage, we provide vital transportation services to eligible individuals and families across Vermont. Using a fleet of leased and donated vehicles, we help people access jobs, education, childcare, and other essential services. With nearly 20,000 rides delivered annually, our program transforms lives by ensuring reliable access to opportunity and independence.
Position Overview: As a driver for Good News Garage, your responsibilities include transporting eligible "Ready to Go" clients in an Ascentria fleet vehicle safely, courteously, and punctually according to schedule. You assist both child and adult riders as they enter and exit the vehicle and, when necessary, escort them from the vehicle to their destination. It is essential to understand and correctly use child safety seats. Additionally, you will utilize a smartphone for navigation, accurately record ride data, and communicate with dispatch, among other tasks.
Here's what we're looking for: - Transport R2G clients safely, courteously, and on schedule to and from designated destinations, including medical appointments, employment sites, childcare facilities, and social services.
- Assist passengers of all ages and mobility levels with vehicle entry/exit; escort riders to and from the vehicle to their destination door as needed.
- Properly install, adjust, and secure child safety seats in compliance with state and federal regulations; verify correct use before each trip.
- Operate company-issued smartphone and GPS/navigation applications to locate clients, follow optimal routes, and record accurate ride data (mileage, times, passenger counts) in real time.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch regarding schedule changes, delays, route issues, or client concerns.
- Perform daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, report maintenance needs, safety deficiencies, or incidents immediately to the supervisor.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure the interior is safe, sanitary, and welcoming for all riders.
โข Comply with all traffic laws, organizational policies, and Ascentria Care Alliance standards of conduct at all times.
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record (no CDL required).
- Proficiency with smartphones, GPS, and basic digital tools.
- Strong communication skills
- Personable, patient, and friendly demeanor with riders of all ages and backgrounds.
- Excellent customer service skills, with a pleasant telephone manner.
- Availability to work shifts between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
โข Must pass a background check, Vermont child protection registry check, and adult abuse registry check.- Prior experience in passenger transportation, paratransit, or rideshare driving preferred.
- Prior experience working with children preferred.
