Seasonal Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course
Schedule:
Seasonal Full-time starting ASAP
Pay: $22-26 hourly, depending on experience.

The Town of Brookline Recreation Department is seeking a Seasonal Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join the team at the Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course to perform skilled manual, technical maintenance and supervisory work related to the construction, care and maintenance of municipal golf course grounds, equipment, and related structures. This role also assists the Golf Course Superintendent in coordination, scheduling and performance and other related work as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in supervising the construction, care, and maintenance of the eighteen-hole golf course, including turf, bunkers, roughs, irrigation systems, landscaping, buildings, and related facilities.
  • Help plan, organize, and coordinate daily grounds operations, including routine and non-routine maintenance activities.
  • Inspect the course daily to evaluate turf health and playing conditions and identify areas requiring maintenance or improvement.
  • Schedule and oversee routine maintenance such as mowing greens, tees, and fairways; cup and pin placement; bunker care; and general landscaping.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal staff, assigning and prioritizing maintenance tasks and coordinating work for tournaments and special projects.
  • Monitor, operate, and perform minor repairs on the golf course irrigation system, including computerized irrigation controls.
  • Ensure the proper identification and treatment of turf diseases, weeds, and insect infestations, and oversee the application of fertilizers, fungicides, and pesticides in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records related to maintenance activities, weather conditions, and chemical applications.
  • Coordinate with equipment maintenance staff regarding equipment use, repair, and purchasing needs.
  • Enforce safety procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment in accordance with OSHA and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Keep the Superintendent informed of work progress, issues, and operational needs.
  • Perform related duties as required and serve in the role of Assistant Golf Course Superintendent during absences when needed.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Degree in turf management, Turfgrass Certificate or a closely related field required; two years of responsible experience in golf course maintenance or a closely related field required; one to two years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid State License, Class D, and a clean driving record
  • Valid State pesticide application license Ornamental and shade trees license preferred
