Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead our turf management and maintenance team. This hands-on leadership role focuses on delivering exceptional playing conditions on our picturesque 18-hole championship course while building a positive, collaborative work environment. You will manage daily operations, irrigation systems, and a dedicated crew to keep the course in outstanding condition year-round. We value a leader who communicates effectively, mentors team members, and fosters a respectful, positive workplace culture where everyone is motivated to excel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of golf course turf management, including mowing, fertilization, pest control, and cultural practices to maintain our high standards
  • Manage and repair the Toro irrigation system with OSMAC controls; troubleshoot and perform hands-on repairs as needed
  • Develop and implement agronomic programs tailored to our courseโ€™s unique layout and conditions
  • Lead, train, and motivate the maintenance crew while promoting a positive and safe work environment
  • Manage budgets, inventory, and equipment maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and safety standards
  • Work closely with ownership, the Director of Golf, and club operations to meet member and guest expectations

Required Experience

  • 3+ years as a Golf Course Superintendent and/or 5+ years as an Assistant Superintendent
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience managing and maintaining a golf course irrigation system (Toro with OSMAC preferred)
  • Experience operating all types of turf machinery and other maintenance equipment, with the ability to perform equipment repairs
  • Ability to calibrate and operate sprayers
  • Landscape design experience
  • Experience planning and executing renovations of tee boxes and bunkers
  • Proven track record of leading and developing a maintenance crew in a positive, team-oriented environment

Required Qualifications

  • 2- or 4-year degree in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a closely related field
  • Valid Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain immediately)
  • Strong working knowledge of Toro irrigation systems with OSMAC controls and the ability to diagnose and repair irrigation issues
  • Excellent organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required by golf course operations
