Pay: $25-$27 per hour 

Benefits:

New hourly full-time team members working 30 hours or more per week, will be eligible for the Company medical, dental and life insurance plans the first of the month following 60 days of full-time employment.

Full-Time team members are eligible to accrue Paid Time Off ("PTO") in accordance with the Company policy at a rate of 120 hours per year.

Full-Time team members are eligible for 7 paid holidays annually.

Part-Time team members are eligible to accrue Paid Sick Leave in accordance with state guidelines.

All team members 21 years and older are eligible to participate in the J.F. Shea Co., Inc. 401(k) plan after completion of 30 days of service.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Irrigator 2 is a member of the Golf Course Maintenance Team and supports the maintenance of the irrigation system for the golf course and common grounds, and works with the Irrigator 1 and/or the Irrigation Manager.  This position reports to the Irrigation Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist in Irrigator scheduling including, nightly watering requirements, and individual station adjustments.

  • Maintain Irrigation inventory.

  • Perform daily irrigation operations, as assigned by the Irrigation Manager, Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent; maintain open communication with the Irrigation Team about daily water requirements, daily irrigation run times, the work schedule, and operational challenges.

  • Be proactive in anticipating water requirements according to weather and plant needs.
  • Coach the Irrigator 1 and Irrigator 2 in performance and understanding all irrigation-related duties.
  • Assist the Irrigation Manager, Irrigator 1,  and  Irrigator 2 in daily, monthly, and annual data collection to create records for water, fertigation, and use of water enhancement products.
  • Work in a safe manner and use all personal protective equipment (safety gear) assigned.
  • Be aware of safety requirements and report unsafe conditions or accidents to supervisor.  
  • Work with others on the irrigation team to implement a thorough preventative maintenance program for all system components.
  • Maintain and clean all equipment daily; identify and correct performance problems and make repairs and adjustments or report necessary equipment repairs to the mechanic or supervisor.
  • Help to maintain up-to-date as-built and databases.
  • Perform daily vehicle refueling and reloading of materials.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One to three years' golf course irrigation and maintenance experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Toro, Rain Bird, or other product system certifications, preferred.
  • Has a basic understanding of the game of golf and understand the need for attention to quality while working as an Irrigator to create optimal playing conditions.
  • Able to demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of irrigation system components, including clean up.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret as-builts, reports, plans, labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and regulatory documents.
  • Ability to identify and correct performance problems and complete repairs and adjustments to system components, including heads, valves, pumps, pipe, wire, tubes, fittings, pump house, computer operation system, filters, water enhancement system, fertigation, valve boxes, quick couplers, and controllers.
  • Willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

  • There may be frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Outdoor environments may require variable terrain while carrying equipment and navigating typical golf course obstacles, including, but not limited to, water, plants, and the natural landscape. The employee may be exposed to hazards including, but not limited to, cuts, slipping, tripping, and falls. 
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to Arizona desert wildlife such as snakes, scorpions, spiders, bobcats, javelinas, etc.
  • There may be occasional exposure to precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can vary depending on the equipment or machines used.
  • Employees are required to wear all assigned personal protective equipment. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position may be very active and may require standing and walking for the duration of a shift, sitting and driving, lifting, pushing, digging, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, using hands to fingers, touching and holding, and reaching with hands and arms; regularly required to speak and hear.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
