As a ground service equipment (GSE) mechanic, your job is to keep the ground equipment at an airport in working order. This includes driving airport service vehicles, handling electrical work, and using hydraulic systems. Your responsibilities are to troubleshoot and repair problems and perform maintenance to keep things running. Understanding how gas/diesel engines work is particularly helpful. Accidents at airports are rare, but they do happen, so you may be called on for emergency support. Keeping your equipment ready to respond to these emergencies is another essential aspect of this job. Some employers ask GSE mechanics to perform other duties as required.
