Job description

Job Summary: The Second Assistant Superintendent assists with the day-to-day oversight of the maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course and adjacent grounds, including but not limited to the clubhouse landscaping and maintenance complex.This position reports to the First Assistant Superintendent and helps oversee the department's Greenskeepers.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Help run a crew of 20+
  • Help oversee golf course
  • Aid in irrigation repairs
  • Able to operate various machines
  • Employee and Safety training
  • Keep shop organized and clean
  • Course Set-up
  • Pick up trash
  • Help apply fertilizer and pesticides
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

Because of the fluctuating demands of the Club's operation, it may be necessary that each employee perform a multitude of different functions; therefore, as an essential part of your job, you will be expected to help others when the occasion arises, just as other employees are expected to help you. Accordingly, you may be expected to perform other tasks, not specifically addressed above.

Reports to: First Assistant Superintedent & Director of Grounds

Supervises: Oversees the departments Greenskeepers

Education/Experience/Certificates/Licenses:

  • A college degree preferred, but not required.
  • PGA Tournament preferred, but not required
  • Ability to obtain a California Pesticide License
  • Bilingualin English & Spanish is a plus
  • GCSAA Member or apprentice preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense management strongly desired
  • Supervisory experience strong desired
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of agronomy, turf grass science and the rules of golf
  • Must possess basic computer skills - Word and Excel
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be extremely organized, efficient and detail-oriented
  • Must be highly motivated, goal driven and self-starter

Language/Communication: Ability to read and speak English is required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g. the associates may be required to communicate with English speaking customers or co-workers, the manuals for the equipment the associates may use are in English). Must be able to work as part of a team and maintain open communication with managers and fellow coworker. Must display professional demeanor and communicate in professional language at all times.
