Job description

Hidden Valley Country Club is entering an exciting new chapter focused on elevating the member experience, golf course presentation, and long-term strategic investment in the property. As part of this evolution, we are seeking a passionate, driven, and team-oriented Director of Agronomy to lead all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations. This is an opportunity for a motivated leader to help shape the future of one of Northern Nevada's premier private clubs while working within the standards and operational framework of Troon.
Position Summary
The Director of Agronomy directly supervises and implements sound agronomic programs in accordance with Troon Quality Standards while working within the fiscal parameters of the facility. The successful candidate will be a visible leader who creates a culture of accountability, communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement across the golf course maintenance operation. This leader will play a key role in continuing to elevate course conditions, modernize maintenance practices, develop associates, and execute both short and long-term golf course improvement initiatives.
Compensation: $165k-175k + bonus.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute operating budgets, capital plans, and long-range agronomic strategies.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial and operational reporting to club leadership and Troon representatives.
  • Maintain and implement Troon agronomy standards while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team culture built around professionalism, accountability, communication, and pride in the property.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and coach a maintenance team of 20+ associates while creating opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
  • Maintain ongoing awareness of all agronomic activity and provide clear direction and leadership to assistant superintendents and key members.
  • Ensure proper calibration, mixing, and application of fertilizers and chemicals.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive fertility, chemical, moisture management, and cultural practice programs.\Partner closely with club leadership to support member satisfaction, tournament preparation, and overall club initiatives.\Utilize modern agronomic technologies and systems including GreenKeeper software and data-driven course management practices.
  • Assist in planning and executing future golf course renovation and improvement projects.
  • Ensure proper training, licensing, and safe work practices for all associates.
  • Foster strong upward and downward communication within the department and across the club.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, or related field preferred.
  • GCSAA Certified Golf Course Superintendent (CGCS) or actively pursuing certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of progressive golf course maintenance leadership experience.
  • Experience leading large maintenance teams in a private club environment preferred.
  • Nevada pesticide applicator license, or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Experience managing POA annua putting greens strongly preferred.
  • High-desert or Reno/Tahoe market experience is a plus.
  • Experience with golf course construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects preferred.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, labor management, water management, and agronomic planning.
  • Experience using GreenKeeper software, including Whiteboard functionality, preferred.
  • Familiarity with USGA GS3, moisture management practices, and advanced turf management techniques preferred.
