Job description

Does a club-wide operating budget in excess of $54 million sound like a stable environment? Then, The Country Club of Virginia has all of this and is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the position of Assistant Superintendent on our famed James River Course. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about advancing their career in preparation for becoming a successful Superintendent. Hard work is rewarded, as previous assistants have gone on to become Golf Course Superintendents. All three of our current Golf Course Superintendents were former Assistants, and several others have succeeded as Superintendents at other clubs.

The Country Club of Virginia is looking for an individual to help facilitate the constant improvement of the golf course and provide exceptional experiences for our members. Assistants will have the opportunity to be hands-on in all golf course management. Qualified candidates will help plan and monitor all maintenance activities and expenses associated with golf course operations, including supplies, chemicals, and fertilizers.

The Assistant Superintendent's responsibilities will include but are not limited to, managing the crew (25 in season), moisture management, pesticide and fertilizer applications, drainage designs and installations, implementing cultural practices, course construction projects, etc. At CCV, we are fortunate to have an irrigation department, in-house arborists, and a robust shop maintenance operation. This allows the Assistant to learn these skills without the tasks becoming their main focus.

Compensation: Salary range is $60,000 - $70,000 (No Overtime); Salary is commensurate with experience; other benefits include 401(k) retirement plan with employer contribution and match, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, flexible spending account, partially paid health and dental insurance, meals, golfing privileges, professional dues, and continuing education opportunities.

Educational requirements

  • Two- or four-year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred; turfgrass certificates will be considered

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' golf course experience
  • Strong leadership skills

Special Requirements

  • Virginia Pesticide license or ability to obtain within 120 days
  • Valid driver's license
  • Good driving record
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus
