JOB SUMMARY
The Special Education - General Education Liaison serves as a bridge between special education and general education staff to support the inclusion and success of students with disabilities. This role focuses on fostering collaboration, improving communication, and ensuring appropriate implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) within the general education setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaboration & Communication:
  • Serve as a primary point of contact between special education and general education teachers
  • Facilitate regular collaboration meetings to support co-teaching and instructional planning
  • Provide ongoing consultation to general education teachers regarding accommodations, modifications, and behavior strategies
  • Consult with case managers
  • Testing Accommodations Coordinator

IEP Implementation Support:
  • Attend IEP meetings
  • Assist in interpreting IEPs for general education staff to ensure fidelity of services
  • Support implementation of academic and behavioral supports in inclusive settings
  • Monitor and provide feedback on student progress and compliance with IEP goals

Professional Development & Training:
  • Offer or coordinate training for general education staff on disability awareness, instructional strategies, data collection, and legal responsibilities
  • Serve as a mentor or coach to support inclusive best practices

Data & Documentation:
  • Help collect and interpret academic and behavioral data for students with IEPs
  • Collaborate with special education case managers to ensure documentation is accurate and up to date

Problem Solving & Advocacy:
  • Address instructional or behavioral concerns in inclusive classrooms proactively
  • Advocate for appropriate resources and supports needed for successful inclusion
  • Be familiar with IDEA procedural safeguards and compliance
  • Consult with administration regarding discipline

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Valid teaching certification with special education endorsement
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in special education and/or inclusive settings
  • Strong knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and inclusive instructional strategies
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Experience with co-teaching models and inclusive practices
  • Proficiency in behavior data collection and progress monitoring
  • Ability to lead professional development and coaching sessions
  • Conflict resolution and facilitation skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with students, other faculty, staff, and parents as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. The position also entails significant walking, bending, standing, stooping, and possible physical interventions in order to maintain a safe learning environment. Assignment may require the ability to physically move students or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs, position students in specialized equipment, and/or change diapers as needed.

Additional Duties
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
