Job description

GO Tutor Corps Teacher ResidencyLocation: Washington, DCStipend: $22,000 (prorated pending start date) | Timeline: August 2026 until June 2027
At the GO Tutor Corps, we believe great teachers are homegrown. That's why we've created the GO Residency-a pathway to the classroom for aspiring educators committed to transforming outcomes for students.
The GO Residency is a school-based teaching apprenticeship, spanning 1 to 2 years, designed to support individuals pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and teaching certification. Residents are placed at one of our partner schools where they gain immersive, hands-on experience through our gradual release in a real classroom under the guidance of a seasoned Mentor Teacher. The Residency blends graduate coursework with daily practice, coaching, and mentorship.
After acceptance into the program, Residents apply to and enroll in a MAT program through one of our graduate school partners. In Washington, DC, we are looking for Residents interested in becoming a future math teacher. Tuition ranges from $11,000 to $25,000 per year, depending on the graduate school program. Throughout the Residency, participants also receive targeted coaching, professional development, and leadership training from the GO Tutor Corps team.
Stipend & Program Benefits
All Residents receive a $22,000 stipend (prorated pending start date) during the residency year to support living expenses while completing the program. Additional benefits include:
  • Housing stipend, seperate from the $22,000 stipend listed above
  • Embedded mentorship and gradual release teaching model
  • Daily hands-on experience supporting instruction in a classroom
  • Guidance through graduate coursework and the teacher certification process
  • Ongoing coaching and observation from program leadership
  • Loan postponement on qualified education loans
  • Monthly professional development sessions
  • Opportunities to connect with a growing network of educators, alumni, and community partners
  • A clear pathway into a full-time, salaried teaching role in Year 2, ideally at your residency placement site

Who We're Looking For
We're seeking individuals who:
  • Hold a bachelor's degree (or will earn one before the program start date) with a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Are passionate about educational equity and student success
  • Are eager to learn, grow, and develop as an educator
  • Thrive in collaborative environments
  • Are pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching or open to enrolling in a partner program
  • Are committed to working in public education long-term

What You'll Do (Day-to-Day Responsibilities)
As a Resident, your day-to-day work will include:
  • Co-teaching and supporting instruction in a partner school classroom
  • Working closely with a Mentor Teacher and school staff to support student learning
  • Planning and implementing lessons and small group instruction as your skills develop
  • Participating in regular observations and feedback sessions
  • Completing graduate coursework aligned with your certification pathway
  • Supporting classroom routines, management, and assessment
  • Engaging with students in a variety of ways throughout the day, including tutoring, supporting transitions, and leading after-school activities.
  • Attending and engaging in all GO Tutor Corps and school-based trainings and meetings

Program Timeline & Application
Residency begins in August 2026 and continues through June 2027. Successful Residents may transition into a full-time teaching role at their placement school or another GO partner school the following year.
Applicants must complete the application in full. Responses will be reviewed by the GO Tutor Corps Residency selection team and school partners.
