Manufacturing Engineer - Electrical

Allen Control Systems

Austin, TX

Full-time

Re-posted 22 days ago

Job description

Company Overview:

Allen Control Systems (ACS) is a cutting-edge defense startup founded by two former Navy electrical engineers with a proven track record in robotics and software. We are developing an autonomous gun turret using advanced computer vision and control systems to precisely detect, track, and neutralize enemy drones.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer with an Electrical Focus to serve as the bridge between our complex electrical designs and a high-quality production floor. You will own the processes, standards, tooling, and troubleshooting that ensure every ACS system is wired correctly, tested thoroughly, and built to perform in the field. We welcome candidates at all experience levels.

This is an onsite position. You will initially work from the current facility in Austin and will transition to our new Pflugerville, TX location upon completion of the facility move, anticipated in Q3/Q4 2026.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the end-to-end cable and harness assembly process, defining how we cut, strip, crimp, and label wiring to ensure every system leaves the floor correctly built and documented.

  • Serve as the floor expert for electrical quality, ensuring the team meets IPC-A-620 standards for cable and harness assembly and IPC-A-610 standards for PCBA handling and installation.

  • Lead troubleshooting on intermittent electrical faults and wiring anomalies, digging into harnesses and connectors to identify and resolve root causes.

  • Design and set up go/no-go test stations to verify that every harness and electrical sub-assembly is functional before reaching the main production line.

  • Manage electrical assembly equipment, including crimp presses, wire processors, and continuity testers, ensuring tools are calibrated and technicians are set up to succeed.

  • Improve electronics integration by ensuring PCBAs are mounted securely, connectors are accessible, and wiring is routed and protected against wear and environmental stress.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.

  • 2+ years of experience, should have hands-on experience with electronics, robotics, or hardware through internships, coursework, or personal projects. Mid-to-senior candidates (5+ years) should bring experience setting up harness production lines, creating formal test procedures, or managing high-reliability electrical assemblies.

  • Solid understanding of wire gauges, connector types, and crimping techniques; familiarity with IPC-A-620 is a strong plus.

  • Familiarity with PCBA handling and quality verification based on IPC-A-610 standards.

  • Hands-on troubleshooting skills using multimeters and continuity testers to diagnose shorts, opens, and high-resistance connections.

  • Strong communication skills; comfortable working closely with technicians to improve assembly methods and providing clear feedback to the design team when changes are needed.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary

  • ACS Equity Package

  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance

  • Paid Time Off
