Our organization is an integrated healthcare system that caters to around 400,000 individuals in central, western, and midcoast Maine, operating through a network of over 40 primary and specialty care facilities. The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Director of Behavioral Health is a key faculty member within the residency program, responsible for providing strategic direction in the creation, execution, and ongoing enhancement of the Behavioral Health curriculum. This role is essential for fostering resident education, professional growth, wellness, and resilience, while ensuring compliance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards and best practices.

The GME Director of Behavioral Health will work closely with residency leadership, faculty, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver behavioral health education, clinical supervision, consultation, assessment, and support services for medical residents. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated educator, mentor, and advocate for resident welfare, contributing to a culture of excellence, inclusivity, and lifelong learning throughout the healthcare system.

• Oversee the creation, implementation, and assessment of a comprehensive Behavioral Health curriculum for medical residents.
• Stay updated on ACGME requirements, standards, and evolving educational best practices pertinent to resident education and well-being.
• Employ evidence-based and learner-centered teaching methods to provide engaging educational experiences.
• Design and lead individual and group learning sessions on behavioral health topics, physician wellness, communication skills, professionalism, resilience, and related subjects.
• Innovate educational strategies that align with resident development and program objectives.
• Regularly evaluate curriculum effectiveness and suggest enhancements to improve educational outcomes.

• Act as a faculty member within the residency program.
• Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and consultation to medical residents.
• Assist residents in developing patient interviewing techniques, communication skills, and professional growth.
• Conduct educational, behavioral, and personality assessments as needed.
• Contribute to the development and evaluation of personalized learning and development plans.
• Support residents facing academic, professional, or personal challenges by offering recommendations and facilitating access to appropriate resources and interventions.
• Engage in initiatives that promote resident wellness, engagement, resilience, and psychological safety.

• Work in partnership with Program Directors, faculty, hospital leadership, and GME staff to ensure cohesive and comprehensive resident support services.
• Integrate behavioral health resources and services across hospital and residency programs to meet identified educational and wellness needs.
• Participate in residency program planning, accreditation preparation, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
• Provide expertise on behavioral health and resident well-being initiatives.
• Support institutional efforts related to resident recruitment, retention, satisfaction, and educational excellence.

• Engage in clinical practice activities as applicable, based on organizational needs and candidate qualifications.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

• Doctorate degree in Psychology.
• Master’s degree for behavioralists with experience in Graduate Medical Education (GME).
• Strong clinical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
• Experience in a GME program is preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
• Commitment to ethical and culturally responsive practices.

Our organization offers competitive salary packages, with a typical compensation range for this role between $131,518 and $164,424. The specific starting salary will be determined during the hiring process, taking into account various factors such as skills, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
