Job description

Substitute Teacher - Early Childhood Education
On-call | Year-round | Monday - Friday
Location: 1802 S. 17th Street, in the heart of Wilmington, NC


At Spark Academy, we believe every child deserves a strong start. As a Substitute Teacher at Spark Academy, you’ll step into classrooms to support children ages 6 weeks to pre-kindergarten in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment. You’ll follow established routines, assist with meals and daily care, and ensure children are supervised and supported throughout the day. This role is ideal for someone flexible, caring, and eager to make a positive impact wherever they’re needed most.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as the classroom teacher in their absence, maintaining routines and ensuring a positive learning environment
  • Support daily caregiving routines
  • Assist in food service including meal set-up and clean-up
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming classroom environment
  • Assist children with bathroom procedures
  • Supervise children at all times according to federal, state, and local mandates
  • Demonstrate the physical ability and stamina required to carry out job duties (including lifting up to 30 lbs)

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Ability to fulfill all North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education (NCDCDEE) requirements to work in a licensed child care program


Schedule & Shifts:
This is an on-call position. Spark Academy operates year-round, Monday through Friday, between 7:00am and 6:00pm, and substitute shifts may vary within those hours.


Compensation:
Hourly rate starting at $13.42, based on education and experience.
