Job Description
The Global Technology Manager, ICP is a senior-level technical leadership role responsible for the development, implementation, transfer and continuous improvement of ICP-OES and ICP-MS laboratory methodologies, systems and procedures across SGS's global Minerals network.
The position provides global technical expertise in analytical instrumentation, method development, quality assurance, laboratory efficiency and technology advancement. The role works closely with laboratory leaders, technical specialists, equipment manufacturers and commercial teams to ensure SGS remains at the forefront of analytical science and continues to deliver high-quality, efficient and innovative geochemical testing services.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Innovation
  • Lead research and development activities for ICP-OES and ICP-MS methodologies to maintain SGS's position at the forefront of analytical science.
  • Develop, validate and implement new analytical methods for emerging sample types, commodities and client requirements.
  • Monitor industry developments and emerging technologies, recommending enhancements to SGS analytical capabilities.
  • Collaborate with instrument manufacturers to evaluate and implement new technologies and capabilities.

Global Technology Transfer & Training
  • Lead the transfer and deployment of ICP-OES and ICP-MS methodologies across SGS laboratories globally.
  • Train and mentor laboratory personnel on analytical methods, systems, procedures and QA/QC protocols.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to regional and local laboratory teams.
  • Support the commissioning and implementation of new laboratory instrumentation and technologies.

Technical Support & Problem Resolution
  • Act as the global subject matter expert for complex analytical and technical challenges.
  • Support laboratories with troubleshooting, method optimisation and performance improvement activities.
  • Provide specialist guidance on client-specific analytical requirements and technical solutions.
  • Support SGS business lines and affiliates with ICP-related expertise as required.

Stakeholder & Industry Engagement
  • Represent SGS at industry conferences, technical forums and professional events.
  • Develop relationships with equipment manufacturers, industry groups and external technical stakeholders.
  • Support business development activities through technical expertise and customer engagement.
  • Contribute to technical publications and presentations where appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Geochemistry, Mineral Processing or a related scientific discipline.
  • Significant experience working with ICP-OES and ICP-MS technologies within a commercial laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analytical method development, validation and implementation.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory quality systems, QA/QC requirements and analytical best practices.
  • Experience delivering technical training and technology transfer activities.
  • Ability to support global operations and work effectively across multiple regions and cultures.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required.

Desirable Skills and Experience:
  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Geochemistry or a related discipline.
  • Experience within mining, minerals, geochemistry or environmental testing laboratories.
  • Knowledge of laboratory automation, instrument integration and emerging analytical technologies.
  • Experience managing global technical programmes or laboratory networks.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Previous collaboration with analytical instrument manufacturers on technology development or implementation.
  • Experience supporting commercial teams and engaging directly with mining or exploration clients.
