Job description

Amazon's Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) organization is seeking a Senior Manager to lead Strategy and Planning for the company's critical Global Road Safety (GRS) team. Global Road Safety owns measuring, reporting, and improving on-road safety performance across Amazon's worldwide delivery and transportation operations, a network that moves millions of packages daily and touches every community we serve.
This leader will own the strategic planning function for road safety: setting the multi-year direction, building the planning mechanisms, authoring the executive-level documents, and ensuring that Amazon's road safety strategy is cohesive, data-driven, and connected to operational execution. You will be the connective tissue between GRS leadership, regional safety teams, operations, engineering, tech, program management, public policy, and finance - synthesizing inputs from across the organization into a unified strategy that is presented at the highest levels of the company.
You will build and lead a team of strategy and planning professionals, set the vision for how GRS plans and communicates its strategic priorities, and hold the organization accountable to published plans. You will own monthly, quarterly, and annual leadership reviews covering GRS performance and strategic direction, including S-team and board-level content. You will think in multi-year time horizons while simultaneously shaping near-term execution discipline.
The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who combines rigorous analytical thinking with exceptional written and verbal communication, operates comfortably in ambiguity, earns trust at the VP+ level, and is motivated by the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of road safety at global scale.
Key job responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision
• Own and drive the development of GRS's 1-5 year strategic plans, defining the long-term vision, strategic priorities, and investment roadmap for global road safety.
• Translate the GRS mission into clear strategic frameworks that connect safety outcomes to operational, financial, and reputational objectives.
• Identify emerging risks, opportunities, and inflection points in the road safety landscape and advise GRS leadership on strategic positioning.
• Serve as a strategic thought partner to executive leaders, shaping how global road safety fits into the overall plan to improve safety at Amazon.
Planning Mechanisms & Executive Reporting
• Design, build, and manage the planning cadence for GRS, including OP1/OP2/Strategic Planning Session cycles, goal-setting processes, quarterly business reviews, and board-level reporting.
• Author and own GRS's highest-level strategic documents: operating plans, S-team narratives, board updates, and leadership reviews.
• Ensure data integrity and narrative consistency across all GRS executive reporting: validating metrics, managing data lock dates, and reconciling inputs from multiple sources.
• Continuously improve the quality, clarity, and impact of GRS strategic communications through better frameworks, visualizations, and storytelling.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Influence
• Partner across Operations, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Public Policy, and WHS to ensure road safety is represented and prioritized within their strategic plans.
• Synthesize inputs from regional safety teams, central programs, and operational leaders into a unified global strategic narrative.
• Drive alignment between GRS strategic priorities and the broader Amazon safety and operations agenda, working with GRS leadership to resolve competing priorities and building consensus across senior stakeholders.
• Represent GRS strategy in cross-organizational planning forums, ensuring the team's priorities are visible and resourced.
Team Leadership & Development
• Build, lead, and develop a team of strategy and planning professionals, setting high standards for analytical rigor, written communication, and strategic thinking.
• Coach and grow team members through feedback, mentorship, and increasingly complex assignments that expand their strategic capabilities.
• Create team mechanisms that scale: playbooks, templates, and processes that institutionalize planning excellence and reduce dependence on any single individual.
About the team
The Global Road Safety Strategy & Planning team is the strategic backbone of GRS. We build and manage the mechanisms through which GRS defines its priorities, measures its performance, and communicates its direction to the highest levels of Amazon leadership. We author the documents that represent GRS at the S-team and board level. We are a highly visible team and a trusted central point of contact for executive stakeholders across Safety, Operations, Finance, and Engineering globally.
We are data-driven, analytically rigorous, and obsessive about the quality of our written and verbal communication. We operate with high ownership, think in multi-year time horizons, and ensure our strategic planning directly enables the safety outcomes that protect drivers and communities worldwide.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of program or project management experience
- 7+ years of cross functional project delivery experience
- 7+ years of working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams experience

- 7+ years of experience in strategy, strategic planning, management consulting, program management, or business operations - with progressive leadership responsibility.

- Proven experience authoring executive-level strategic documents (operating plans, board narratives, S-team reviews) for VP+ audiences.
- Exceptional written communication skills - able to distill complex, ambiguous problems into clear, concise, and compelling narratives.
- Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills; comfort working with large data sets and translating metrics into strategic insights.
- Track record of partnering effectively across a large, diverse set of cross-functional stakeholders and driving alignment without direct authority.
- Experience managing multi-cycle planning processes (annual planning, quarterly reviews, goal-setting) for a global organization.
- Track record of building scalable mechanisms and processes that outlast any individual contributor.

- Experience in Amazon's planning mechanisms and document culture (OP1/OP2, 6-pagers, WBR/MBR/QBR frameworks).
- Background in health, safety, or risk management strategy at enterprise scale.
- Demonstrated ability to influence executive leaders, shape organizational priorities, and drive decisions in ambiguous environments.
- Experience with data visualization, dashboarding, and reporting tools that improve executive-level decision-making.
