Kuehne + Nagel offers an immersive internship bridging academic learning with practical application. Interns work in a dynamic, cross-functional team, gaining exposure to various departments and contributing to projects alongside experienced professionals. The program includes structured training focused on critical skills, with opportunities to learn advanced supply chain engineering techniques and global optimization strategies. Interns will explore supply chain engineering and optimization through hands-on experience, understanding how these methodologies improve operational efficiency. Placed within the corporate trade team, interns will gain foundational knowledge of Kuehne + Nagel's services and sea freight strategies. They will learn the team's role in shaping global logistics and strategic decision-making, equipping them with a solid understanding of sea freight's role in the company's success.

How you create impact

This 12 monthsinternship program offers comprehensive exposure to Kuehne + Nagel's corporate trade team, focusing on global logistics, maritime regulations, and pricing strategies. Specific goals and objectives include:

  • Understanding Team Roles: Interns learn the responsibilities of different groups within the trade team and how they collaborate, with an emphasis on regional structures and weekly calls with sub-regions.
  • Learning About Rates: Interns explore how rates are formulated, focusing on fixed, floating, and premium rates, as well as global versus regional pricing. This knowledge is key to providing competitive quotes.
  • Understanding Ocean Carrier Agreements: Interns are introduced to agreements between carriers and shippers, including their structure and compliance with Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) regulations.
  • Role of the FMC: Interns will understand the FMC's regulatory role in maritime operations.
  • Understanding Contracts: Interns learn the significance of contracts, compliance, and the consequences of non-compliance, including penalties or service disruptions.

  • Ability to develop and understanding of legal agreements with carriers and suppliers.
  • Basic Microsoft Excel Skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of Industry Regulations, including FMC regulations, and Incoterms 2020 a strong plus.

Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, skills, job location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
