About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation:

The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of today’s and tomorrow’s power grid!

We are looking for a Quality Manager - GIS Factroy Liaison. This position will be based in Wendell, NC. Relocation assistance is available.

The Quality Manager serves as thesingle point of contact (POC)between the SI EA US organization and assigned manufacturing facilities (primarily Frankfurt) for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) equipment.

This role is accountable formonitoring, analyzing, and driving improvements in quality performance across US projects, ensuring that factory-originated non-conformances are effectively resolved through validated corrective actions and sustained process improvements.

The position requires strong collaboration with factory Quality Management teams and involvesregular on-site engagement to verify implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions.

  • Factory Interface & Ownership
  • Act as theprimary quality interfacebetween SI EA US project teams and GIS manufacturing facilities (Frankfurt and others as assigned)
  • Ensure clear communication and alignment onquality issues, priorities, and escalation topics
  • Represent US customer expectations and project-specific quality requirements to factory teams
  • Support alignment across regions to address process gaps and ensure consistency in execution
  • Defect Trend Analysis & Reporting
  • Review and analyzedefect data across US GIS projects,identifyingrecurring issues, systemic failures, and high-risk areas
  • Consolidatedata intotrend reports and actionable insightsfor both US and factory stakeholders
  • Drivedata-based prioritizationof improvement initiatives
  • Ensure reporting supports reduction ofcost ofpoor qualityand customer-impacting defects
  • 8D Review & Corrective Action Validation
  • Review and challenge8D reports provided by factoriesfor completeness, accuracy, and depth of root cause analysis
  • Ensurecorrective and preventive actions are:
  • Clearly defined
  • Properly implemented
  • Verified for effectiveness (not just closure)
  • Drive accountability with factories fortimelyand high-quality responses to customer issues
  • Escalate insufficient or ineffective corrective actions
  • On-Site Validation & Audit (Quarterly Travel)
  • Travel to assigned factories (e.g., Frankfurt)on an as needed basis (ie.Quarterly, bimonthly)to:
  • Validate implementation of corrective actions from 8Ds
  • Confirm effectiveness of process improvements
  • Perform targeted audits on high-risk areas
  • Collaborate with factory QM teams to:
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with:
  • USQMiP
  • Product Care and Engineering
  • Factory Quality and Manufacturing teams
  • Supportroot cause investigations and resolution of critical field issues
  • Drive aclosed-loop feedback systembetween US projects and factories
  • Facilitate the negotiation of NCC charge backs between WLL and the factory
  • Identifysystemic issues and drivepreventive measures across projects and factories
  • Promote the use of structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, FMEA, etc.)
  • Ensure lessons learned are:
  • Documented
  • Shared across teams
  • Embedded into processes and standards

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science.
  • 7+ years of experience in Quality Management, Project Management or similar roles - preferably in Switchgear manufacturing.
  • Experience in core quality tools like FMEA, Six Sigma, 5Why, 8D, Ishikawa Diagram, VSM, Process audits.
  • Experience in Salesforce database
  • Ability to work in matrix global organization.
  • Ability to work on international projects and travel worldwide as the need arises.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical knowledge and experience in Switchgear and Motor Control Centers
  • Experience working with Data Center, Semi-conductor or Utility customers, a huge plus.
  • Data Analytics/ Digitalization skills
  • Experience in Project and Lean Management is desirable.
  • ASQ or other quality certifications desired.

  • The pay range for this position is $91,463 - $156,794 annually with a target incentive of 10% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
