About the Role

Versa Networks is looking for a Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations for our growing global workforce. This role is ideal for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and enjoys building efficient, compliant, and scalable payroll processes.

As our payroll subject matter expert, you will oversee multi-state U.S. payroll, support international employees through Employer of Record (EOR) partners, administer payroll-related benefits, and ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations. You will work closely with the People Team, Finance, Accounting, and external partners to deliver a seamless payroll experience while continuously improving processes and controls.

What You’ll Own

Payroll Operations

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for U.S. employees across all 50 states, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Process semi-monthly or bi-weekly payrolls, off-cycle payments, bonuses, commissions, equity-related compensation, and final pay.
  • Administer wage garnishments, levies, and other payroll adjustments.
  • Maintain payroll system configuration, controls, and data integrity.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Monitor changes in payroll legislation and proactively implement required updates.
  • Prepare and coordinate year-end reporting, including W-2s, W-2Cs, and 1099s.
  • Coordinate annual Form 5500 filings and support retirement plan compliance and audits.
  • Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Global Payroll

  • Manage payroll operations for international employees through EOR partners.
  • Serve as one of the primary contacts for EOR providers, ensuring timely approvals, accurate employee data, compliance, and invoice reconciliation.
  • Collaborate with global stakeholders to support an expanding international workforce.

Benefits & Employee Experience

  • Partner with Human Resources to administer payroll-related benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), FSA, HSA, and other employee programs.
  • Ensure accurate benefit deductions during open enrollment and throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Serve as the primary resource for employee payroll questions, providing responsive and professional support.

Financial Partnership

  • Reconcile payroll accounts and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.
  • Partner with Accounting to ensure accurate payroll journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation and analysis.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve payroll efficiency.
  • Evaluate payroll systems, workflows, and controls to enhance accuracy, compliance, and scalability.
  • Build strong relationships with payroll providers, benefits administrators, auditors, and cross-functional business partners.
What you’ll Bring

Required Experience

  • 8+ years of progressive payroll management experience supporting a multi-state U.S. workforce.
  • Expertise in federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and compliance.
  • Experience managing international payroll through EOR providers such as Deel, Remote, Velocity Global, or Papaya Global.
  • Experience preparing or coordinating Form 5500 filings and supporting retirement plan compliance.
  • Hands-on experience administering payroll-related employee benefits.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll accounting, reconciliations, and payroll audits.
  • Experience using enterprise HRIS and payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now, Workday, UKG, Paylocity, or Rippling.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York City is expected in the range of $130,000 to $180,000. A candidate’s specific pay within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including job-related skills, training, location, experience, relevant education, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
