Job Description

Are you an ambitious student with an interest in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spatial analytics, and location strategy looking to apply your knowledge in a dynamic corporate environment? Pilot Company is seeking a GIS Intern to join our team in Knoxville, Tennessee, for the summer of 2027. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in geospatial analysis, making a significant impact by helping our team better understand market dynamics, competitive influences, and site selection opportunities while being mentored by our experienced staff. 

In this role, you will be an integral part of our GIS and Network Planning efforts. Your key responsibility will be to support critical geospatial analysis projects that help inform business decisions related to market share, competitive positioning, network planning, and future site selection. This internship is not only an opportunity to learn the practical application of GIS principles but also a chance to grow within a supportive team that is dedicated to developing its people. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Support GIS analysis and mapping initiatives: You'll play a crucial role in analyzing geographic data and developing maps that support business planning and network strategy. 

  • Build and maintain geofences: You'll assist in creating and managing geofenced locations across retail and competitive sites, developing a foundation that can be leveraged across multiple teams. 

  • Analyze location-based data: You'll work with geospatial and operational datasets to identify market trends, assess competitive impacts, and uncover business opportunities. 

  • Support network planning efforts: Your work will contribute to site selection evaluations, network remodel projects, and market analysis initiatives. 

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For 

  • Education: Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Geography, Geology, Environmental Informatics, Business Analytics, GIS, or a related field. Coursework or a minor in GIS is a plus. 

  • Technical Skills: Experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro is essential. Familiarity with Python, SQL, and data analysis tools is highly preferred. 

  • Soft Skills: A self-starter mindset, strong problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills. We're looking for someone who can effectively explain technical concepts and analytical findings to non-technical audiences. 

  • Qualities: A high level of interest in geographic information systems, spatial analysis, and location strategy, along with a desire to learn and contribute to a collaborative environment. We value individuals who are driven, reliable, authentic, and welcoming.
