Job Summary:
Bowman Consulting is seeking a GIS Technician II to join their team remotely. The role involves providing technical support to land development and design teams by managing geospatial data, producing cartographic deliverables, and performing spatial analyses.
Responsibilities:
• Work under general supervision, receiving guidance primarily on unusual or complex tasks.
• Independently perform standard GIS tasks, applying sound judgment and recognized methods.
• Serve as a resource and mentor to entry-level GIS staff and interns.
• Foster productive working relationships with peers, team leaders, project managers, and external partners.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of GIS standards and workflows within the company.
• Perform intermediate-level geospatial data editing, analysis, and quality control across multiple projects.
• Create, manage, and maintain GIS datasets and geodatabases in accordance with project and organizational standards.
• Design and produce professional cartographic products to support engineering, planning, and environmental services.
• Utilize geoprocessing tools to extract insights and automate common spatial analysis tasks.
• Conduct field data preparation and post-processing of GPS and remote sensing data.
• Support the development and maintenance of web-based GIS applications, dashboards, and interactive maps.
• Assist with scripting and automation of GIS tasks using Python or ModelBuilder where appropriate.
• Troubleshoot GIS-related issues and recommend solutions to improve workflow efficiency.
• Collaborate with technical teams to integrate GIS data into planning reports, permitting documents, and client presentations.
• Perform research and spatial analysis to support site selection, zoning studies, and environmental impact assessments.
• Participate in cross-functional project teams to ensure GIS deliverables align with project goals and deadlines.
• Provide training and technical support to new or less experienced GIS users.
• Participate in professional development through workshops, conferences, and user groups.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Engineering Technology, or a related field required.
• 2+ years of professional GIS experience in a planning, engineering, or land development environment.
• Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and Esri’s suite of geospatial tools.
• Experience with data management, spatial analysis, map design, and basic automation.
• Working knowledge of coordinate systems, topology rules, and geodatabase architecture.
• Strong documentation and version control practices.
Preferred:
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, GPS/GNSS data, remote sensing imagery, and LiDAR a plus.
• Experience with scripting (Python) or geoprocessing workflows strongly preferred.
