Job description

Position Summary

SunEnergy1 is seeking a detail-oriented Civil CAD Technician to support the engineering and construction of utility-scale solar, battery energy storage (BESS), and substation projects throughout the United States. This position is responsible for developing accurate engineering drawings and construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D, collaborating closely with civil engineers, project managers, surveyors, and construction teams.

The ideal candidate has experience preparing grading plans, drainage layouts, access roads, erosion control, utility layouts, and foundation details for renewable energy or heavy civil infrastructure projects. Experience supporting utility-scale solar projects is highly preferred.


Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and revise civil engineering drawings utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Develop site layouts for utility-scale solar facilities, substations, BESS installations, and associated infrastructure.
  • Produce:
    • Site plans
    • Grading plans
    • Drainage and stormwater plans
    • Access road layouts
    • Erosion & sediment control plans
    • Foundation details
    • Utility routing plans
    • Construction details and sections
  • Create existing and proposed surface models using survey and LiDAR data.
  • Generate earthwork quantities and grading exhibits.
  • Prepare plan/profile sheets and construction drawing packages.
  • Incorporate engineer markups and client comments accurately.
  • Maintain company CAD standards, templates, and drawing libraries.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, and substation engineering teams.
  • Assist with permitting exhibits and agency submissions.
  • Support construction by preparing as-built drawings and field revisions.
  • Organize project files within company document management systems.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with applicable engineering standards and client requirements.

QualificationsRequired
  • Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Civil Technology, or related field.
  • 3+ years of Civil CAD drafting experience.
  • Proficiency with:
    • AutoCAD
    • AutoCAD Civil 3D
    • Microsoft Office
  • Ability to interpret engineering calculations and construction plans.
  • Knowledge of grading, drainage, utilities, and civil site development.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred
  • Experience with utility-scale solar EPC projects.
  • Experience supporting electrical substations.
  • Working knowledge of:
