Utilizes Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location. Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results. Recommends appropriate reactionary strategies in response to GIS analysis. Provides maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis. Knowledgeable of GIS software and technology. Works in conjunction with CADD drafters and technicians. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.



Assist GIS Analysts in advanced GIS/Mapping applications to produce maps, tables and reports. Assist in the revision of city/county general highway maps. Make changes/additions to the state highway system and other highway systems, shown on the map. Update other items included on the map. Update database tables to reflect changes to the highway system and other elements included on the map. Perform quality control on data to maintain correctness and spatial accuracy standards. Assists GIS Analysts in advanced GIS/Mapping applications to produce maps, tables and reports, and in the development and maintenance of procedure manuals and on demand mapping. Performs related tasks as assigned by the manager. It is expected that the candidate work 40 hour 5 day week in the SCDOT Columbia, South Carolina Headquarters Building between 7 am and 6 pm with a half hour to an hour lunch between 11 am and 2 pm.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Knowledge of gis and mapping systems and the tools necessary for development and implementation. Working experience with gis applications, knowledge of basic cartographic standards. Ability and desire to learn new software. Microsoft office.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
knowledge of geomedia, arcgjst, basic knowledge of digital representation of transportation system, experience in map production.
