Job description

Girl Scouts of Suffolk County is the largest youth-serving agency on Long Island. The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County is growing. Guided by an ambitious plan and its dynamic team, GSSC aims to expand its footprint to every community in Suffolk County and make Girl Scouting possible for every girl who wishes to participate.
Position Summary
The Sales Associate, under the guidance of the Retail Coordinator, plays a vital role in the operations of the Girl Scout Shop. This position entails a hands-on approach to daily sales activities, inventory management, and customer engagement. It will also include assisting the Product Program Department when needed. The Sales Associate is integral in promoting Girl Scout values through merchandise and direct interaction with our community.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the daily operations of the Girl Scout Shop, ensuring a welcoming environment for all visitors.
  • Promote new merchandise, sales, and special promotions, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of all badge levels and Girl Scout uniform requirements.
  • Support inventory management, including tracking and reporting on daily sales and stock levels.
  • Process customer transactions, including sales, returns, and exchanges, while ensuring store layout reflects seasonal changes and promotional displays.
  • Prepare and organize merchandise for event stores and special occasions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, embodying the values and mission of the Girl Scouts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Retail Coordinator or other supervisors as needed.

Council Responsibilities
  • Uphold the policies and procedures of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County, serving as a positive representative of our organization.
  • Exhibit strong planning and organizational skills, demonstrating initiative to meet department and council goals.
  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, fostering a supportive work environment.
  • Utilize strong computer skills to manage records accurately and adapt to new software applications as required.
  • Maintain excellent written and verbal communication skills, timely reporting, and record-keeping.
  • Adapt to a flexible work schedule that may include evenings and weekends to meet shop needs.
  • Promote and articulate the mission of the Girl Scout movement to community members and organizations enthusiastically.
  • Ensure deadlines are met efficiently and accurately.
  • Provide support for summer camp and other departments as required.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of retail/customer service experience, with a focus on inventory management.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, ensuring a friendly and helpful shopping experience.
  • Proficient in Office 365, OneDrive, Microsoft Excel, and other relevant software.
  • Flexible schedule availability, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be trustworthy, as you will be responsible for handling cash and credit card transactions.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills to address customer concerns effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and engaging in physical tasks as needed.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel within Suffolk County.

Hourly Pay:
  • $20.00 per hour

Work Schedule:
  • Monday - Friday
  • 20-25 hours per week
  • Weekends as needed
