Job description

Description:

The Science Shop (Gift Shop) Team Member will provide superior customer service to all Science Museum Oklahoma patrons while visiting the gift store. This position requires point of sale operations in a cash-handling environment and strong customer service skills. This is a part-time position.

  • Greet visitors, monitor traffic flow, and assist customer service with information.
  • Cash handling of register till, change given and balancing of register till at end of day.
  • Greet guest upon entrance and facilitate their visit to the shop
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism and appearance as a representative of Science Museum Oklahoma to the public.
  • Weekdays, weekend, and occasional holiday availability is required.
  • Maintain physical appearance of the Science Shop by keeping areas clean and organized.
  • Process merchandise shipments and maintain stock levels on sales floor.
  • Proactively maintain a knowledge base of all museum programs, shows, memberships and auxiliary services.
  • Provide demonstrations of product to guests as assigned by supervisor.
  • Assume other responsibilities and tasks as assigned by Science Shop supervisor.


Requirements:
  • One (1) or more years of cash handling experience
  • One (1) or more years of experience in a customer service position
  • Must have open availability and be able to work 16 to 24 hours a week (weekends required).
  • Preference is given to applicants who have experience in designing and assembling merchandise displays at a retail store.

Additional Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to serve our guest with excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure with flexibility.
  • Excellent mathematical skills.
  • Ability to operate computer equipment used in Science Shop.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to push, pull, lift, bend, stoop and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.


Employee must be able to meet physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

This position has no direct or indirect supervisory responsibilities. This position must maintain positive working relationships with management, employees, applicants, vendors and the general public.
