What is a German lighthouse?

A German lighthouse is a coastal structure located in Germany, designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses to serve as a navigational aid for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways. These lighthouses help mark dangerous coastlines, hazardous shoals, reefs, rocks, and safe entry points to harbors. Many German lighthouses are also historical landmarks and tourist attractions. They play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of ships and guiding maritime traffic along the German coastline.

What are some common challenges faced by German language instructors working in international schools?

German language instructors in international schools often navigate classrooms with students at varying proficiency levels and cultural backgrounds. Adapting lesson plans to address diverse learning needs while keeping lessons engaging can be demanding. Additionally, instructors may collaborate with colleagues from different departments to integrate German language learning into broader curricula, requiring strong communication and flexibility. Building rapport with students and fostering a positive learning environment are key to overcoming these challenges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a lighthouse keeper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Lighthouse Keeper, you need strong practical maintenance skills, basic maritime knowledge, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with navigation aids, weather monitoring instruments, and communication systems is typically required. Reliability, attention to detail, and self-sufficiency are crucial soft skills for managing the isolation and responsibility of the role. These skills ensure safe navigation for vessels, proper equipment upkeep, and effective response to emergencies.

What is the difference between German Lighthouse vs German Maritime Pilot?

AspectGerman LighthouseGerman Maritime Pilot
Required CredentialsNavigation certification, maritime knowledgeNavigation certification, maritime knowledge, pilot license

Job description

Artefact is a global consulting company specializing in data and AI services, headquartered in Paris. We combine the rigor and structured problem-solving of top-tier strategy consulting with deep expertise in data, AI, and analytics to help clients achieve tangible business impact.

With 2000+ consultants, data scientists, and engineers across 26 countries, we work with global market leaders. Our German office is on a strong growth trajectory, advising clients cross-industry on their most pressing strategic challenges. We don't just deliver slides – we bridge the gap between technical possibilities and business imperatives, guiding clients from their first lighthouse use case to company-wide AI maturity.

Main Responsibilities

As a Consulting Manager (m/f/d) Data & AI Strategy, you will act as a trusted sparring partner to executives, steer complex transformation programs across functions, and drive organizational change at scale.

  • Lead AI Transformation Programs: Steer end-to-end execution – from a focused 6-week engagement with a 500-person Mittelstand manufacturer to multi-phase transformations with large enterprises. You will identify internal champions, manage blockers, and drive measurable adoption and organizational change.
  • Strategy & AI Use Case Scoping: Work closely with C-level stakeholders to answer high-stakes questions: How can AI reshape their business models? How should they govern data? You don't just advise; you help evaluate model choices, discuss data privacy trade-offs, and conceptualize technical feasibility.
  • Drive Business Growth: Actively drive the growth of our German practice. Take ownership in lead generation and pipeline conversion by engaging prospective clients, shaping proposals, and supporting pre-sales and key-account development with entrepreneurial energy.
  • Thought Leadership & Advocacy: Represent Artefact's AI Transformation perspective externally. Advance our voice in enterprise AI through expert discussions, content creation (e.g. LinkedIn, whitepapers), and opinionated, hands-on perspectives on applied AI trends and real-world adoption pathways.
  • Advance the Practice: Evolve our methodologies, tools, and frameworks to keep our offering state-of-the-art. Develop reusable transformation playbooks and bring your strategic consulting or domain expertise into the team.
  • Team Leadership & Mentoring: Act as a senior advisor and role model – leading, coaching, and mentoring agile, hybrid project teams (consultants, data scientists, and engineers), fostering a fast-paced, can-do culture.
Candidate Profile

At our heart, we define ourselves by a culture of ownership, intellectual curiosity, and cooperation. We are looking for driven, capable, and prudent talents with a strong motivation and hunger for new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow. You are a true team player, eager to support others while scaling both the company and your own career.

  • Work Experience: Approximately 5-8 years of full-time working experience in management consulting, enterprise technology, or fast-paced environments like leading startups and boutique consulting firms. A proven track record of delivering data, analytics, or AI-driven transformation projects is essential.
  • Transformation & Change Management: Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional transformation programs, with the ability to manage executive stakeholders, navigate corporate politics, and embed AI capabilities within client organizations.
  • AI Fluency & “Builder Mindset”: Strong fluency in modern and applied AI – including agentic AI systems, LLM-powered workflows, generative AI applications, and AI evaluation best practices. While you don't need to be a full-time programmer, you have a hands‑on understanding and can credibly demo working AI concepts and discuss data privacy constraints.
  • Analytical & Technical Acumen: Knowledgeable about common machine learning techniques, cloud architectures, and data management principles. Excellent quantitative skills to draw strategic insights from complex data sets.
  • Communication & Presence: Outstanding communication, presentation, and moderation skills. You have a strong presence and can translate complex technical topics into compelling arguments for non-technical senior executives, as well as bridge the gap to technical execution teams.
  • Education: Excellent academic track record with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, (Business) Informatics, Engineering, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Languages: Fluency in both German and English (written and spoken) is mandatory to successfully advise our German Mittelstand and enterprise clients.
  • Work Eligibility: A valid work permit for Germany.
Why Join Us?
  • Strategy with a Data Edge: Artefact sits uniquely at the crossroads of top-tier business strategy and deep tech. You will build boardroom-level strategy expertise while staying at the absolute forefront of AI, data management, and digital value creation.
  • Impact & Entrepreneurial Freedom: As part of a fast-growing team in Germany, you will have high visibility from day one. You will directly help shape Artefact's footprint in the region, bringing in your own ideas and driving business growth.
  • Continuous Learning: Constant exposure to new AI solutions at the intersection of technology and business. Access to regular training in both strategy consulting methodologies and the latest AI/data capabilities through our global network.
  • Culture of Doers: We combine a high degree of self-assurance with a supportive, collaborative environment. We are entrepreneurial, fast-moving, and committed to delivering real impact – while strongly supporting each other's personal growth.

Don't worry if you don't meet all the criteria! At Artefact, we value motivation, pragmatic problem‑solving, and potential above all else. If you have the hunger for new challenges and a passion for driving the AI revolution, we'd love to hear from you.
