GEOTECHNICAL LABORATORY MANAGER

Location: San Antonio, TX | Hybrid
Schedule: Full-Time
Pay: $25.00 - $36.00/hour (based on experience)

EVS is seeking a Geotechnical Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operations of our geotechnical materials testing laboratory in San Antonio, Texas. This role is ideal for an experienced laboratory professional who enjoys leading teams, maintaining high-quality standards, and ensuring accurate, timely testing that supports critical engineering and construction projects.

As the Geotechnical Laboratory Manager, you'll lead laboratory operations, oversee quality assurance programs, manage equipment and personnel, and help deliver reliable testing services that support infrastructure, transportation, and development projects throughout the region.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Manage daily laboratory operations, including staffing, workload planning, testing schedules, and resource allocation
  • Coordinate sample receipt, tracking, storage, testing, reporting, and disposal procedures
  • Ensure laboratory testing is completed accurately and on schedule to support project deadlines and client commitments
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve laboratory procedures, workflows, and operational efficiencies
  • Monitor laboratory productivity and support engineering teams with timely testing updates and deliverables
  • Review laboratory testing procedures, calculations, and results for technical accuracy and compliance
  • Ensure all testing is performed in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project-specific standards
  • Provide technical leadership, training, and mentorship to laboratory technicians and support staff
  • Maintain laboratory accreditation requirements and oversee QA/QC programs and documentation
  • Conduct internal audits, investigate nonconformances, and implement corrective actions when needed
  • Maintain laboratory records, certifications, and quality documentation
  • Oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, certification, repairs, and replacement planning
  • Manage laboratory inventory, testing supplies, and vendor relationships
  • Promote a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment while ensuring compliance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct safety inspections, support employee training, and assist with incident investigations and corrective actions

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • High school diploma required; Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Geology, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of geotechnical laboratory testing experience, with previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of soil, aggregate, and geotechnical laboratory testing methods
  • Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, and applicable industry testing standards
  • Experience supporting laboratory accreditation programs, quality management systems, and QA/QC processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or similar laboratory software
  • Understanding of laboratory equipment calibration, maintenance, and certification requirements
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project coordination skills
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional quality and accuracy
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform laboratory activities throughout the workday
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel occasionally for project support, training, or vendor coordination
