2026 Geotechnical Services Intern - Cleveland, OH

Our broad service offering includes construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing.

What are we looking for?

The 2026 Intern - Geotechnical Services is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory testing, site assessment, engineering duties and administrative tasks under general supervision.   

As an intern at Intertek Building & Construction, you will receive hands-on training and mentorship, allowing you to gain valuable insights and skills in your field of study. Additionally, you will have opportunities to network with industry experts, shadow within different roles and departments, and connect with fellow interns and professionals. To support your development needs, we offer flexible work schedules and a collaborative work environment.

What you'll do:

  • Perform a variety of laboratory testing,  and site assessment duties under direct supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures.
  • Operate laboratory testing equipment and conducts soil testing 
  • Work utilizing drawings, specifications, and diagrams
  • Visit project sites to stake soil boring locations in the field
  • Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results
  • Communicate effectively with project teams
  • Assist in classifying soil samples and various geotechnical laboratory testing
  • Provide back-up support for other department administrative staff 
  • Perform data entry maintenance in company systems

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Construction Management degree program at an accredited University
  • Valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required
  • Must be able to work off shifts and overtime
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
  • Must be able to read and understand work plans
  • Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
  • Ability to climb occasionally
