Job description

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is currently seeking an Entry-Level Civil/ Waterfront Engineer to join our team in our Amesbury, Massachusetts office. The successful candidate should have a strong academic record, solid understanding of civil engineering fundamentals, and a desire to work on a variety of exciting and challenging projects both in the office and in the field. Assignments will likely be focused on coastal projects, but will also span a variety of infrastructure, real estate/building development, and energy projects. Previous work experience is preferred but not required. Strong work ethic and communication skills are highly valued.

Between field work projects, you will work in a professional office setting, preparing detailed and accurate field documentation, evaluating data and performing engineering analyses, preparing technical reports, and implementing new technology.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Executing subsurface exploration and in-situ testing programs to evaluate soil and bedrock conditions
  • Performing field construction observation during installation of soft (nature-based) and hard shoreline protection/stabilization measures and other coastal projects, shallow and deep foundation installation and testing, environmental sampling and monitoring, and other diverse projects.
  • Assisting with topographic and bathymetric survey as well as condition assessment of waterfront structures.
  • Evaluating field data and performing engineering analyses/calculations.
  • Writing field summary reports, drafts of field and engineering reports, technical specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Preparing construction cost/quantity estimates.
  • Assisting with submittal reviews and requests for information during construction.
  • Communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients, and team members.

Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering (MS Degree is a plus).
  • 1+ years of professional work experience is preferred.
  • Effective communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities.
  • Experience with numerical modeling, AutoCad and GIS preferred.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Ability to work locally and regionally. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license in good standing and have a consistent means of transportation to/from project sites.
  • Familiarity with coastal processes and small boat operation is preferred.
  • EIT certificate or ability to obtain within a year. Desire to obtain Professional Engineer registration.

The base salary for this position may range between $70,000 and $90,000. The actual base salary and total compensation will depend on many factors, including location, candidate experience, education, professional licensure, and other qualifications.
