The Director, Assistant General Counsel - Litigation, is a senior legal leader responsible for managing high-impact litigation and serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and business partners. This role drives litigation strategy and oversees outside counsel, balancing legal risk with practical, business-aligned solutions. The ideal candidate brings deep litigation expertise, strong leadership presence, and the ability to operate effectively at both the strategic and operational levels of a dynamic, fast-paced organization.

YourResponsibilitieson the Team

  • Advise senior leadership on high-impact cases, providing strategic guidance and recommendations for appropriate resolution, including settlement, mediation, or trial.
  • Serve as a key legal partner to business leaders, collaborating across functions to anticipate legal risks, support initiatives, and deliver timely, practical legal solutions aligned with organizational priorities and values.
  • Manage outside attorneys in all aspects of litigation facing the enterprise, including construction defects, personal injury, environmental, employment, land use, and contract disputes.
  • Manage matterlevel financial responsibilities, including oversight of moderate outside counsel and settlement spend, budget tracking, and costconscious decisionmaking consistent with approved frameworks and escalation thresholds.
  • Assist in the preparation of litigation and risk reports to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, outside auditors, and internal business clients.
  • Responsible for establishing and assuring compliance with case management strategies to further the business goals of the company.
  • Prepare witnesses for deposition and trial, including coordinating preparation sessions and advising on testimony strategy.
  • Lead and mentor lower-level attorneys and legal professionals, providing guidance on complex matters, reinforcing best practices, and supporting professional development and performance expectations.
  • Assist with an array of departmental administrative matters, budgetary and compliance activities, internal investigations, and other legal matters as they arise.

Your Toolbox

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in the U.S.
  • 10-15 years of relevant legal experience, with a preference for some experience managing in-house litigation at a publicly traded corporation.
  • Experience advising executive leadership on complex legal, regulatory, and risk-management matters.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing legal teams and external counsel.
  • Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels, balancing legal risk with business growth.
  • Prior experience in a senior in-house legal role or comparable law firm position.

Physical & Office/Site Presence Requirements:

This is primarily a sedentary office position which requires the incumbent to have the ability to operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, and move and carry up to 25 lbs. Finger dexterity is necessary.

General Overview of Compensation & Benefits:

We reasonably expect the base compensation offered for this position to range from an annual salary of $165,500.00 - $206,900, subject to adjustment based on business-related factors such as employee qualifications, geographic pay differentials (e.g., cost of labor/living, etc.), and operational considerations.
